deyur: Mine arrived this morning :D. On charge right now. Took a week after leaving Clove, never even had to pay GST!

I'm very happy with Clove after they offered to send a second phone in good faith, when the first tracking number was lost. If anyone is still on the fence, definitely a trustworthy company.

... you're lucky FedEx just rang me for credit card details to pay gst ... hopefully getting desire soon...waahoo..

Might be worth waiting (if you can stand it) until after next weeks General Election in the UK as if there's a hung parliament then the pound is forecast to drop like a stone.

It already took a hit yesterday from the Greek debt issues so the price could get very tasty.

Looking at today's exchange rate then a Desire will cost $760 delivered (not forgetting the possible hit for duty when it reaches NZ although some have paid others haven't)

Yup. Two days. I couldn't wait two more measly days. That'll teach me. Actually it probably won't! lol

For those who would rather wait a bit longer and save GBP6 postage from Clove:

Clove dispatched my phone on 21 April via Airsure (Royal Mail).  It arrived in Auckland today (30 April).  I don't know whether the postage was affected by the ash fallout.

Unfortunately for me, I'm over in Melbourne for work now, so I have to wait another week for my friend to bring the phone over!  :(  however, it looks like they haven't charged me GST.  Nice

Regards the GPS issues on Telstra handsets - HTC pushed a hotfix today (can't remember details/where I saw it, some RSS feed...). Might be worth looking into...

Cool excellent, thanks NZtechfreak.

I am thinking of buying the Telstra version of the Desire.  Spoke to a salesman today who just had no idea about technology.  I asked him if I used it on Vodafone's network whether I would get 3G speeds or not.  He couldn't answer, but mumbled something.

Are any Android phones branded by telecos?  As in, the OS being modified to look Telstra, or Vodafone, etc?

Wish to use this on the XT network back in NZ.

it should work fine, all you need are the XT apn settings, and then to adjust the location settings on the phone:

XT apn info:

APN:

wap.telecom.co.nz

 MMS

MMSC http://lsmmsc.xtra.co.nz

MMS Proxy 210.55.11.73:8080

MMS Max Message Size 614400

Some people who had used a gold card to flash a generic htc rom kinda fixed the gps issue, but it wouldn't work the moent you turned wifi or data on. so effectivly useless. but those who have fully rooted the phone ..did manage to fix the gps issue a day before telstra released there fix ..was some SPUL settings telstra messed up.

but then you had people complaining that data speeds where alot slower on these rom's ..and that turned out to do with some of the location settings:

go to phone dialer and type *#*#4636#*#*

Click on "Phone Information"
Note the "Location:" field and note the changes, as well as Signal strength.

Press "Menu" hard button
Select "Radio Band"

EURO = Lock onto 2100MHz band (Hutchinson/3)
USA = Lock onto 850MHz band (Telstra NextG)
 AUS and AUS2  ..

think either USA or AUS2 worked and all was well ... i'll try ASU2 which is what telstra use i think, should priotise correctly 850MHz
