kyhwana2:
grantls: Fwiw, I bought my desire from clove last month at £330 and selected the royal mail option. It arrived just 1 or 2 days after other orders shipped via dhl, and I didn't have to pay gst for some reason. Landed price nz$791. Great phone, luvin it.

Really? I've chosen that option too. Guess customs let it through without imposing GST on it! Lucky!
Wont get mine till the end of the month probably, don't mind paying GST on it as long as they clear it quickly..

Mine was part of the backlog that was held up due to the Iceand erruption.  So maybe they all left the UK together when the dust cleared, I don't know.

However, I was following this forum and reading comments from other people that had ordered their Desires at the same time I did, and they all selected the more expensive DHL freight option (I wanted to do the same at the time, but selected the Royal Mail option by mistake).  As it turned out, all of their Desires were delivered via FedEx, only 1 or two days before I received mine, and they all had to pay GST, while I did not.

A bit of serendipity in the end, as $791 delivered is probably the cheapest Desire around.

Heya, being new to vodafone I'm not actually fully aware of how much I'm getting charged for calls/texts apart from my base rate of 'free' call minutes and texts.

Can someone enlighten me?

I've looked on their website but can't find the info wanted (still looking though!)

Thanks
J

I think you're posting to the wrong forum/thread?

If you're on prepay, calls are 89c a minute and txt's are 20c a txt, otherwise check which plan you're on?

Hmm, what currency do customs do GST on? ie, if i've paid GBP for something, do they convert that to NZD when it comes into the country or what the GBP to NZD was at the time I actually paid for it?

It's converted at an exchange rate that is fixed. I think it might be set every week or something like that and it remains at that until the next revision cycle.

It is when it lands to Customs and it is GST on the goods and shipping paid combined.

Wah, according to clove their shipment of HTC Desires has been delayed another 2 weeks!
"
Thank you for your recent order for a HTC Desire.

As you are no doubt aware, we were today (24th May) set to receive a shipment of HTC Desire units from HTC.

Unfortunately for reasons outside our control, the shipment has been delayed by HTC and we are now expecting the stock to arrive towards the end of the first week of June (an exact arrival date has not been confirmed).

We kindly ask that you do NOT email us to chase your order. It is our every intention to update you as best as we can and the most up-to-date information on shipping dates will be displayed on the HTC Desire product page on our website.

All outstanding orders will be held until the stock arrives and payment deducted only hen the stock arrives. When it does all orders will be dispatched as quickly as possible.

We appreciate your patience in this matter.

The Clove Technology Sales Team.

Its the number one selling handset in Europe right now I heard, HTC have struggled with matching demand since its release, and its not helped by Samsung creating a hardware bottleneck with their AMOLED screen production failing to meet demand...

Well, they said the end of next week, so by the time it gets shipped to us, it'll probably be in 3 weeks time :|

i'm a little tiny bit sad about it, but i know there's nothing to be done but wait :) the clove team are doing their best, but the Desire is just in such high demand!

i guess it means i get a little bit more time to extract/export messages and contacts and whatnot from my current phone and look for accessories.

The other kicker about the delay is that, because Clove will bill you once they ship, you'll end up paying slightly more, as the GBP has strengthened over the last few weeks against the $NZ.

Just to clarify, should you expect to pay Duty/GST etc, or is it a bit of a lottery?

yeah, i did put in a note about that, as well as emailed them, but they just said that it would be converted by my credit card company.

i think someone else on this thread said that it's possible to ask them to charge you before they ship.

as for GST being charged once it arrives in NZ, most people have said in this thread that they were charged GST, but a few weren't or were not charged as much. I guess it is a bit of a lottery.

I asked them to charge my CC at the time, which they did.. I think I paid at $1nz=0.485GBP.. (which was a few weeks ago :P)

Some people have said they've got hit with GSt, some of them haven't. I guess it's a lottery :P
