If you're an Apple fan then I would say its worth waiting, but everyone I've seen who has changed from an iPhone to the Desire find the Desire a much better device. So if you're not completely inured to Apple then the Desire is a great device.

I look on with interest to Apple's announcement, but I doubt I'll be getting an iPhone no matter how good it is (once it gets jailbroken then perhaps the next iPhone will be good enough).

Pretty sure they're just showing details of iPhone OS 4, no details of the iPhone 4 (or whatever it'll be called) of any merit. Maybe they'll finally have multitasking...

And anyway, it'll still be a closed-down Apple device. People like Android because you can mess with it and aren't tied to proprietary software.

Will be interesting to see what the Aussie Desire ends up being like, if it's an 850/2100 device and can be rooted to put the generic HTC firmware on rather than whatever bastardised version Telstra put on, then I'll be on it like white on rice.

ryan1019, how about staying on topic, or starting your own thread on the OS 4 event?

Basically even including GST the price from the UK is very competitive, I don't expect to see NZ parallel importers matching it, and my source couldn't. I can't provide any more warranty cover than the UK online seller we're all purchasing it from, so there was no advantage to me sourcing it. If you're keen Clove.co.uk has it cheap, otherwise you'd have to wait on NZ parallel importers to get it in. If you waited you would probably have the 720P video recording and DivX playback available from the get-go, so waiting isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Ryan, I had some of the same resovations but I figure Clove appear pretty reputable and will assist as far as possible in the unlikely event something is wrong.  My inexperience with setting up an import device is what concerned me most but I'm sure our more expert friends here who are also getting Desires will be happy to lend us some advice.  That's one of the reasons I'm keen to finally get my hands on an Android device to see if any of whay I've read/learnt over the last year or so has stuck :-)
