Hi all

Is there a source of NZ focussed android apps? I've had a look at the market website and it doesnt seem to have a search, or be able to break down into coutries.

I'm looking to get into Android dev with all my spare time and would like to get a better idea of what currently exists - no point reinventing the wheel!

I can't find anyway to do this either I'm afraid, even looking at several of the many online repositories for the Android Market. Sorry!

So what can you find?

I get:

  • NZ Weather (Simon McAulife)

  • NZRoadInfo (pete.clare)

  • Pizza Rat Auckland (Pizza Rat)

I use NZRoadInfo on a regular basis.

Paid apps can only be posted from a short list of countries. I suspect this may have something to do with money and taxes and regulation. It's what kept the Apple Store out of NZ for most of a decade. It's hard work and NZ is a small market.

A Kiwi dev looking to get onto the Android Market would be best to post a free app...and then offer a full-function paid version (or a function-enabling reg key) via an off-market web site. PDANet (non-root wifi tethering) do this, for example. Titanium Backup use the reg key approach.

You can also check out the other Android markets, like SlideMe. If your app is desirable then users WILL find you.

I'm on a high fibre diet.

Any app that is going to be NZ specific, movies, restraunts etc, I am more than willing to support and pay for.
