Ah, I'd been eyeing up Handcent SMS, will give it a go.

Any other owners had trouble receiving MMS/PXT? Mine kept saying "Generic Network Failure"...

GameBOID and Raging Thunder 2 Lite (since we can't access the Market for Copy-protected apps) are worth checking out for gaming.

I've had some problems sending MMS a few days ago. I too kept getting a "generic network failure", but after a few retries, they sent. Not sure why though...

On one instance, it failed on my phone, but my gf still got it lol...

I am late to the party... Can you folks please, please, please use the correct forums? We have an Android forum, do not post this in the Mobile Handsets forum.

My fault sorry, this is specifically about the Desire Handset so thought this would be the appropriate forum. Can you move it?

Oops, you have :)

Couple more tips I hadn't seen before:

Long press the Home key to bring up the last 6 apps you've accessed (and go to any one them), long press the Menu key anywhere to bring up the keyboard (although not yet sure where this would be useful, tried to see whether it would search music in the music player by alpha, but unfortunately no), and if you've enabled voice search you can access that direct by long pressing the search key...

Handy. Re your MMS problem I have a similar problem, what settings did you use for setting up MMS etc?

I created a new APN specifically for MMS (I went with some Vodafone NZ settings for a guy's HTC Hero I found via Google), and that seems to work for me; although I have been getting some problems such as the "generic network failure" error NZtf and I mentioned earlier. So far, after a few re-tries, the MMS usually sends successfully.

The settings I have are:

Name: VFNZ MMS
APN: live.vodafone.com
Proxy: <not set>
Port: <not set>
Username: <not set>
Password: <not set>
MMSC: http://pxt.vodafone.net.nz/pxtsend
MMS Proxy: 172.030.038.003
MMS Port: 8080
MMS Protocol: WAP 2.0
MCC: 530
MNC: 01
Authentication Type: <not set>
APN type: mms

Maybe somebody can figure out if there's anything wrong with these settings :)

NZtf, kiwitrc, could you both try these settings and see if you get the occasional "generic network failure" error like me? :)

Do you have a setting for server, which is just before the MMSC setting? I have pxt.vodafone.net.nz/pxtsend.

I have nothing in "Server", it's < not set > as well. Maybe I'll shove that in and see how it goes :)

EDIT: Lol strange, < not set > doesn't appear if the < and > are right next to the words "not set" :P

Hi everyone,

Just ordered my Desire but not here yet ....
and was wondering what people were using for a twitter app?
I've heard that Touiteur was quite good.
Also I've heard NewsRob is good for google reader ...
Would like your thoughts .... or I'll post mine once I get my phone...

I have a Twitter account, but I hardly ever tweet on it, so my impression(s) might not be 100% accurate, but the in-built HTC "FriendStream" app seems to be pretty good for it. Or you can use the dedicated HTC "Twitter" app, which looks pretty good too.

Both are available with the phone as soon as you turn it on :)
