There isn't supposed to be a radio light next to your MMS APN btw. Only for the Internet APN :)

No need to turn off the message alerts.

I used to get that error also. It was always related to incorrect APN settings. Sometimes I had to enter them manually (instead of using the apn manager backup).

You will not get a "radio light" net to the MMS entry. You are not supposed to. I never do. You get one next to the internet APN.

You could try the SIM of a friend with a known working MMS connection. Put it in to your phone, set your phone with the correct APN's for his provider, and try that. (Not a telecom one though). Try YOUR SIM in someone elses phone - maybe a dumb phone (e.g. a plain simple little phone). Process of elimination.

Check to see if you can browse a web site with the cell phone network (not wifi). Or retrieve your gmail. If not - there's your problem. You are not connected. MMS uses the internet also.

Also check that the SMS service number is correct.

Also check that the number you are sending it to does NOT start with +64.... It shouldn't make any difference, but it was one of the changes *I* made along the way. I wondered if some dumb router was sending it to some equally dumb international handler... Never underestimate the Power of the Dark - opps, Stupidity of the Phone Company.... (I mean putting the Vodafone voicemail number into a slingshot SIM and LOCKING it from changes?!?!).

Bloody ell, I have tried all of the above now lol (better not quit my day job).
However have not tried a friends phone.

My settings have been checked several times.

I will try the sim thing as soon as I find someone else with a pxt mobile.

Thanks again

The devs at MoDaCo don't recommend OTA updating if you are rooted and/or running a custom ROM.

So I'll most probably wait a bit for them to cook up a custom ROM with the soon-to-be-released Android 2.2 for our Desires. Or if I'm feeling impatient I might unroot my phone hehe.

Chances are I will stick with my custom 2.1 ROM and wait for a custom 2.2 ROM release from MoDaCo :) I have no complaints with anything really. Just looking forward to the speed boost with 2.2.

I've heard the speed boost is not really with the operating system and core features, but for the Java JIT compiler only, and that app devs need to code stuff in the right way to take advantage of the way the Dalvik JIT compiler works.
My mate said there was no noticeable difference in the phones core speed when he got froyo on his Nexus One, so I'm expecting the same and not getting too excited about the widely publicised '2-5x' faster claim.
Definitely do expect heavy java apps to feel faster though!

Nope, you don't have to change any code in java apps to take advantage of the new Dalvik JVM.

Ok, ths maybe mentioned somewhere.... But i have not spotted it in the 40 odd pages of this thread....

Can you access the web from a Desire via USB into a desktop?
For example I have no wireless near work, can I plug into my desktop and via the USB cable and leech net off that?

OMG!! got the desire today - i so want to like this phone... but i STILL can't get MMS to send.
Yes I've followed EVERY single tip/trick/setting in this list  - in fact for the last 12 hours... and I cannot get it to stop doing generic net work failures and invalid responses.

checked sim in my N97 and all works fine.

*sigh*

losing the will to live now.

I know what you mean, I spent ages on google trying to sort.
Have called 2degrees and HTC with no avail.
Not a biggie as you can post on fb but still would be nice to have the function.
I have tried everything.
Also I have had issues with Microsoft Email work acc.
Even my IT dude cant figure it lol.
If I get an app it works but cant open attachments or have callander.
Love the phone though.
