TheUngeek: Ok, ths maybe mentioned somewhere.... But i have not spotted it in the 40 odd pages of this thread....

Can you access the web from a Desire via USB into a desktop?
For example I have no wireless near work, can I plug into my desktop and via the USB cable and leech net off that?

Yes you can do this and its called tethering. Search for PDANet (free but eventually can't access https or US$30 full version) or EasyTether Lite (Free or US$10 version) on the Market and follow the instructions.

With Froyo you will be able to tether wirelessly.

Sorry, missed your reply!

I know you can use the ph as a hot spot etc and go from ph to pc/lappy etc.
What I mean is can you go the other way
Use net on the ph via the pc?

It's official. Android 2.2 is coming to us all.

The specs look amazing. 720p video recording, along with iTunes syncing. Eat that, iPhail!! :)

Yup wonder when it will start rolling out here, can we expect it this weekend? I am looking forward to native Apps2SD support, a much better market app and the much talked about DVM speed boost :D Apparently there's support for syncing with iTunes as well, let's see how long before Apple releases an update to block HTC from doing that. Anyone remember the fiasco with the Palm Pre?

Damn! I think I saw the update earlier but I mistakenly closed it, now it won't come back when I run the update checker!

I'll be waiting for the custom rom with root.. there's the possibility that they've changed the boot loader (again) so doing the OTA update means you might never be able to root it again.

Gutted I missed that update message I got, since they are rolling it out I might not see it for a while, I'm really hanging out for froyo now. Its a shame you can't download it off the net then apply it.

Did you try manually checking for updates?

Yeah, lots. I was under the impression it didn't work like that, I read HTC were rolling it out over the 3 handsets getting it, starting with the Desire. So the bandwidth isn't hit all at once

There should be a link to the ROM download on xda soon, as well as a rooted ROM..

Sorry I misread your question. I'm not aware of any method of being able to do it the other way round. I searched for 'reverese tethering android' and didn't find much. Although it seems like you might be able to do it on Linux with 2.2: http://blog.mycila.com/2010/06/reverse-usb-tethering-with-android-22.html

Hehe, I hear ya! I can't wait to play with the new features on Froyo :D I guess you won't have to wait too long for a rooted version to come along, hang in there :P
