Bond & Bond or Parallel Imported would be a decent starting point. A mate told me a couple of days ago the some Harvey Norman stores have them from time to time also but I can't guarantee that. As to the VF/XT thing, sorry but I have no idea. But I'll bet some peeps here will know.

mobicity seem to have some, the captivate and vibrant also. What are they like to deal with, anyone? Seem slightly dear...

I notice the Vibrant has HALF the talk time the SGS and captivate do. Anyone know why?

only other thing i wonder is if it could be a problem related to the switchpro app as it has a gps toggle.

@brendon - I got mine from mobicity t, but can't comment on after sales service, they were very quick to deliver the phone. There are some threads on gpforum.co.nz on whirpool forums about mobicity. They are actually based in Australia. They have a live chat on their website that you can use to ask them any questions.

there is no model that does 850 and 900 3G.

Thanks, I'm less worried about 3G access due to the pricing here in NZ. I use wifi.

Thanks for posting the settings, I checked the settings at around 8pm tonight and they were already the same as what you have posted. have also cleared the gps data. it seemed to be fairly accurate this evening. not sure if this will altered the reboot gps issue. I was gonna wait more than 4 hrs to respond, as I havn't had a chance to see if it has altered the issue.

I'll accept this as a genuine appreciation of the effort I put in to respond to your request. However, a simple apology for not responding sooner would get you more brownie points than "There is no need to blow a fuse r2d2".

You have more than 900 posts here vs my 60 odd, which means your understanding of the etiquette here must inevitably be greater than mine. I would appreciate it in future if you'd demonstrate that. Feel free to disagree with my comments, but at least show me the respect that, I in turn, show you, especially when I am trying to help you. If you feel that you don't need or want that help, say so and I'll refrain from attempting to do so.

PS: And in a not at all snarky sense, I'm chuffed that your GPS issue has shown signs of improvement.
Bear in mind that I'm not totally convinced that I have a permanent fix, but I can honestly say that it's an order of magnitude better than it was. Good luck with yours.

Cavet: please double check this, but I understand that;

Vodafone 3G (UMTS) 900 in most of the country and has 2100 in the major urban areas. It also has a little bit of 3G at 1800 in the cities

Vodafone 2G (GSM) is 900 throughout the country with also some 1800.

Telecom XT (3G/UMTS with HSPA+) is 850 in most of the country and has 2100 in the major urban areas.

This means that you should be able to use either version of the i9000 for fast 3g internet in the major urban areas.

If you have the "vodafone version" of galaxy s (900 3G) in rural areas on telecom then you won't be able to get a data connection.

If you use the "telecom version" of galaxy s (850 3G) in rural areas on vodafone you will be able to use 2G data connection.

Thanks for the update KJ. I'm rapt that your GPS is performing as close to you might reasonably expect, plus or minus a gnat's foreskin.

Now if you hadn't had a cyber-tiff with some noob, you'd likely still be spitting tacks 'bout your GPS "4 evah"! :-)
Keep us posted as to how the settings hold up, as I will. And possibly the gorgeous Neets might also.

I think I gave you the impression that I felt the Galaxy S is a shiet phone, it's not, it's a fantastic phone I was just comparing it to the Desire HD (a forum member requested thoughts on this phone vs Desire HD for an upgrade from his current Desire) which i get the feeling is a better overall package, although lots would disagree. Of course I wouldn't sell Galaxy S just to rebuy a Desire HD /end rant. In fact if I had Desire I wouldn't upgrade to either of these phones, I would wait for something newer to appear :)

Yeah, well...

This is a much better phone in every sense than the iPhone 3Gs, which until the iP4 (seemingly unable to make calls with any kind of regularity) was the smartphone of choice of the glitterati. So I will enjoy it as both a tool for my business and replacement for my much-loved yet not-mourned Nokia E71. Which has awful audio, I have to add.

But if something awesome appears tomorrrow, all bets are off.

Did you get a chance to record the Cno strength of the best satellites? I've had 40 appear but mostly (regularly) 30+ for the 3 or 4 closest satellites. Out of the ~10 the GPS can see, 7 seem to be in view most of the time.

That LbsTestMode is one handy piece of kit.

I ran the Performance Test: 404128ms average time. Not sure about the others yet, This is outside with clear night sky above me. Will try the other tests later, I'm installing Navigon currently (see thread in android forum), bed time now.

Yikes. That's not too special. My averages are in the 15000 range indoors in my office, in the 10000 range in the family room (which has much glass). It's starting to look like your phone has a fault. Have you considered a replacement?

I'll try outside in a minute and post the result so you can compare in the morning. Seems like you may have neen wrestling with a dodgy handset though. Dang! Sorry if that's the case.

Outdoors, with Orion's belt clearly visibly, occasional fair weather cumulus scattered about, around 14ºC and accompanied by the calls of the Morepork.

So in summary, ~15" indoors and ~7 seconds outdoors. This is St Heliers, Auckland. I'd venture that this result is about as good as a smartphone might expect but feel free to share your results, peeps.
