nofam:
lokhor: I think with Clove you're paying for guaranteed quality product and after sale service. with one of the online NZ stores with dodgy reputations what you get delivered is what you are stuck with.

And Clove will very quickly rectify any problems for you (As NZTechFreak can testify); the cheap & cheerful e-tailers here tend to become cheap and nasty (and suddenly unable to speak English) if there's a problem.

Caveat Emptor.

O/T, you didn't get drunk last night did you nofam?

I also remembered Wipeout also has a problem.  So two to go and we're back up to full speed with working phones.

No time for drinking last night - i was too busy restoring my apps!  :-D

Actually, I just felt like shouting all the wonderful peeps in this corner of Geekzone - it was your collective encouragement and suggestions that kept me battling away.

I just felt so bad about mucking my phone up, especially because I'd had to 'discuss' (read:beg) getting a Galaxy S with SWMBO for so long!!

Doc appears to have released a new Rom BUJP8 v9. Wondering what firmware BUJP8 is.

Awww, so carrying Neets. :P

Dropped off my baby (the other baby hahaha.. ) to Harvey Norman this morning. As well as them looking at the external micro SD card reader, I've asked them to enable the 3 button recovery/download mode on my handset. I've explained that once the warranty is over and something goes wrong with the phone, I don't want to be forking out stupid $ for a simple problem which can be fixed by simply going into recovery mode. I was a pushy customer! hahaha... I'm pretty sure they hate me by now, because I made it very clear that the product needs to be in the satisfactory state for me to take it back, or I want the refund. :>

Ah, very nice wazz, good job! :>

Was reading that thread on xda and was well impressed how someone came up with this device. Good to hear that it works. :)

This is getting very interesting. Basically Samsung are refusing the enable the 3 button recovery/download function, as they blocked it for "all New Zealand suppliers of these handsets". I said to the guy at the Harvey Norman that I want a refund as I was never told that this function will be disabled when I first received the phone, yet I'm expected to pay the full retail price. But now Harvey Norman are refusing to provide the refund. We'll see where that's gonna take them. Still to hear from the manager tho. I said to the guy that he is better to get someone with a legal knowledge to give me a call, as I'm not going to put up with this. Oh the fun! lol

On the external sd card reader issue, Samsung basically told the tech guy at Harvey Norman to get another SD card and see if that fixes the issue. This is after the original has been replaced once already. Jesus, I feel I'm dealing with monkeys. All I want is a fully functional phone, so I don't use third party firmware to fix the lack of 3 button recovery function, and bleeming be able to take photos and store them on the external card. :|

This part of the CGA applies -

Goods must comply with sample or demonstration model

If you buy goods based on a model or sample that the seller has shown you, what you are supplied with must correspond with the sample. When the goods arrive you should be given reasonable time to compare them with the sample.

My Galaxy S was bought from Noel Leeming and has recovery mode working. Either you're in the minority who can't access recovery mode, or I'm in the minority that can. The annocdotal evidence suggests its the former and so therefore the above CGA guideline would apply to your situation.

I feel your pain as I currently have a faulty mobile phone with Harvey Norman that is one month over its 12 month warranty. I won't be paying LG to fix it, so HN will have to step up. They are notoriously bad when it comes to this sort of thing and have a long history of denying customers their rights under the CGA.

there is an international example of the 3 button mode being disabled on this phone, and then people complaining that it meant the phone was subpar and then samsung re-enabling the 3br mode. Search the web maybe you can find the story.

Farenheit, most definitely! Not only they're in breach of Consumer's Guarantee's Act, I could also find them at fault when it comes to a contract. The device was sold to me under the false understanding that it will be fully functional phone, at full retail price. As part of the contract law, I can claim that I am not satisfied with the product based on the misleading/the lack of information given to me by a retailer. The retailer owes highest duty of care (compared to purchaser) and must be honest with the state of goods sold to the customers. Harvey Norman also can not claim ignorance (ie "we didn't know Samsung blocked that function) and they're considered as a professional entity. Contract law was my favourite in Commercial Law discipline when I did it at uni. :>

KJ, yeah man, I've seen threads on XDA on this. I think Samsung NZ are just power tripping. I will bring them down very quickly. :>

haha my ex-fiancee was a lawyer so was extremely handy when it came to refunds on anything. A refund or warranty request on lawyer stationary is hardly ever declined.

I'm not a lawyer, but I've studied commercial law as part of my qualification. I know enough to represent myself in the court. Vodafone are still probably leaking their wounds after my last crusade. :>
