Plasmadog: @Forgotten - Thanks for that. That's what I have now after the upgrade too, so there must be something else causing my market issues.

Is the product code still in tact?

Anyway I remembered this from the Aussie Whirlpool forum:

Restricted market access (protected apps are hidden)

It appears the only white-listed beta version is JPH, meaning the Market must be tricked into seeing your phone as running JPH.

  • Open the file /system/build.prop with a program such as Root Explorer

  • Find the line beginning with "ro.build.fingerprint"

  • Within that line, replace the text such as "XXJPK" or "XXJPC" with "XXJPH", "XXJPM" or "XWJP6", save and exit

  • Reboot to take effect

Wouldn't it also work if you use Market Enabler to have your phone tell the Market you're on Verizon or something? Thats what I do in order to get apps like Ebay official, Parcels, YouTube Remote...

Torquenstein: Also, haven't there been eclair updates past jh1?

There are heaps of updates JH1 is the version Voda seems to have gone with. After JH1 (2.1) u upgrade to JP3 (2.2). Make sure u choose from  the drop down list VNZ and spoof that if u don't have a vodafone fone but want the voda firmware. U can also save the firmware using one of the options in the hack. I believe U'll also need the CSC folder from someone with a Vodafone fone for the product code/ sale code etc. as i believe the csc folder is blank after the upgrade.

Member Ranton has successfully updated his JH1 to JP3 and reports it being very fast and stable, no lagfix required thus far which pretty positive :)

I'm currently on JPA and even with voodoo lagfix i find it a bit sluggish. I'll try JP3 but need the vodafone CSC folder.

Still working my way thought the Doc thread on XDA but just came across a post that reminded me that often those with market problems log into GTalk and that seems to reset things and the Market is kicked into life again.  Might be worth trying.

Darky's Rom sounds quite good. I still am waiting for all the bugs to be ironed out in JPU before making the jump. Wonder if Doc managed to fix the issues with titanium backup.

Yes, Kalpik has a routine that needs to be run to fix it.  It's posted on the front pages.

I've been running his 4.1 rom for a week now. It was my first custom rom and so I had a bit of a learning curve to overcome. The choice was easy because he sets out to make it as noob friendly as possible and thats precisely how it panned out. I'll probably update to his 5.2 (JPU) rom tomorrow.

NZtechfreak: Artoo if you still haven't managed to get rid of Voodoo it sounds like the application lets you boot into recovery and select disable lagfix from there...

G'day NZTF.

Haven't had a go at voodoo removal yet. Too much weekend stuff happening to attempt it today. Sunday will be the go.

The app does indeed allow 2e, so I'll try that. I may need to re-flash 2.2.1 to get the WiFi working again and I think it'll be safer if Voodoo lagfix is gone before I take that step.

Ill definitely report on my results either way.

Cheers,

2e recovery Voodoo lagfix option applied and lagfix no longer active on my SGS. Going to attempt re-flashing 2.2.1. I may be gone for a while.

kiwijunglist: @Brendon, first step, update via kies to froyo.

All I'm getting via kies is JPE. I do not know if that's froyo or not....

Hey guys,

I've applied the voodoo lagfix and tbh I've noticed that the phone still isn't really that snappy lately (particularly with browsing my 3g ipod touch is lightning fast in comparison). Is it worth trying out one of the custom roms?

If I am to start from scratch, whats the best way to do that? I've done a factory reset, but my understanding is that I'll need to reflash...what's the best way to do that?

It's Sunday.

Followup on 2.2.1 - As noted above, Voodoo lagfix was uninstalled, successfully re-flashed 2.2.1 (and WiFi is working again), and rooted the phone with SuperOneClick. So all is good. Again, all apps are there, but behave as if it's their first time run on the device.

Quadrant with no lagfix applied = 1198. As before, response is nothing less than 'silky'. Now to find out a way to get an ext2 style lagfix to take. I'm thinking that the Voodoo app was responsible for the disappearing WiFi so I don't want to have to do this re-flash thing to fix broken stuff if I don't have to.

Might try flashing an earlier CWM via ROM Manager. But that may be a crapshoot.

We shall see.

Cheers,
R2D2

Installed OCLF 2.0 and it's running fine. Quadrant reports 1789. WiFi still working as hoped.

Happy man once more. Smile Time for bed.

When you're flashing using Odin (specifically 2.2.1 that Artoo is using) what PIT file are you using?

That part still confuses me. :(
