Wipeout: Too late... hahhaha... my phone is sitting in download mode with a yellow man. Odin said that it "Failed!". :|

Anyway out of this?

leave it plugged in, don't reset it. Go to xda and do some searches. Did odin actually flash anything and then fail or did it stop before that? Read the link above I gave you and try again?

When I read that link you gave me, and used the Richtofen's RAZ_P-SBL_SGS.tar, chose that as my pda file, clicked start in Odin, the message returned saying - all threads completed (succeed 0/ failed 0).

Phone is still in download mode btw.

Edit: I guess I need to safely get out off Download mode and try again? How do I get out off this yellow screen without losing any data?

You might be all right. I AN NOT AN EXPERT! Lol. Doesn't look like it actually flashed anything... Seems it failed on the file certification... Type some of that log into google and see what others have said?

I've had a FAIL once before.  Can't quite remember what for, the CF root I think, a long time ago.  I unplugged and then pulled the battery out.  So long as there's no blue bar travelling along the phone screen (showing it's copying/updating etc) then I think it's fine.  Otherwise you'd end up with your phone permanently attached to your computer.  Not very useful :)

Brendan is asking if the blue bar showed up on your computer.  I think not given it failed.  I think it would only have begun the blue bar if it had gotten past the MD5 Hash thingee.  And it says it's completed now so I take that as a sign you can unplug.  Nothing on the phone happened.  Though I accept it's easier for me to sit there comfortably saying that when it's not my phone.  I'm not very good at cheering you up am I ;-)

I don't think any blue bar appeared at all. Phone is still in download mode. So I should just unplug from usb drive and take out the battery, right?

Yes, that's what I did when I had a FAIL in Odin (for a different reason to you).  I'll cross my fingers for you :-)

make sure you read and follow all instructions
That method states that I already need to have a JPX fw, which I don't, and it's a root for those who do... would this be what you're talking about??http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728754, under ADB reboot recovery section?

Actually there is a seperate kernal to flash to enable root + superuser + busybox + clock work mod + 3button recovery (2e) for every stock firmware.  You should use kies to update to 2.2 firmware before flashing.

It sounds like you've already started flashing other things, so you might not be able to use this method anymore. however for other users this is the most recommended and safest way to add root, cwm and 3 button recovery to your phone.

EDIT: Just read your post, can you not get to JPX using kies?? what is the problem that is stopping this from happening?? I seem to remember there was a chainfire for 2.1 but maybe I'm mistaken.

Booted up fine! :> Thank you for your help.

Sh****t, that was scary.

Now to figure out what went wrong. Any suggestions peeps? All I'm trying to do is to fix the 3 button combo issue, right. I've followed everything very carefully in instructions.

I guess good thing is that ADB is working fine.

Perhaps Kiwijunglist's post above will help, though it's more than you were hoping to achieve.

Right, I'm now letting go of the breath I was holding for you.  I think everyone's experienced a little hiccup (read fear) when flashing their phone.  Now you've joined the club good and proper :-D

Nothing loaded for me man. Just remember that I'm still on 2.1 JH1. Those files above contain 2.2, plus other mods correct? Because before I start flashing 2.2, I want my recovery to work in 2.1. Plus, before I start flashing any firmware, I also want to be able to back up the current one I'm running (2.1) for warranty side of things. So I'm happy to take any advice, as long as it will help me to achieve above. Suggestions KJ?

yea. sorry missread your post, does your phone work with kies, what does it say when you try to update with that.

with regards to this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728754 ; i have never tried this method.

I think safest method would be to get to 2.2 via kies (+/- kies registry region patcher) - do a factory reset + wipe prior or post kies update, then apply chainfire.  I've always done factory reset + wipe prior to flashing new roms.
