Neets: Yep.  Should have just walked away.  The file doesn't show (odd) so I selected to ++ go back ++ and used the usual back buttton and now I get a message on the screen:

ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0 SpeedMod ULFK Back menu button disabled

Nice.

Go directly to bed.

Do not pass Go.

Do not collect $200.

In the morning, maybe a reflash back to JM8, full factory/dalvik cache wipe first?

Bugger!

That would be sad nofam.  If I'd really bullsed it up I'd certainly need the $200, and then some!  All is well.  At least until I go into recovery mode again merrily attempting to apply Lord knows what and I get tossed to the street (again).

ArtooDetoo:
chronotrigger: I bought my phone from DSE if that is of any help.  It is running the official 2.2 version.  GPS is very much improved.

The lag that was present in 2.1 is also almost all gone.  Slight lag sometimes but much improved compared to 2.1.  Skype works great.

Even when I use Kies Registry Patcher to make Kies think that my phone is 2.1, the update will become available again.  Maybe Kies is not reading some of the phone's firmware version correctly?

My phone is currently running Firmware 2.2 ,  Baseband version I9000SRJP2, Kernel version 2.6.32.9 root@SE-S604 #9, Build number FROYO.SRJP3

Just delete Kies and re-install it (the most recent version) and all will be back to normal.

(I think... Laughing )

Cheers,
R2D2

My Kies is working alright.  I'm just saying that everyone should be able to get access to 2.2 update officially anyway.

The saddest part is that I have no idea what you're on about love, but I really want to help you. heh

What a nice thing to say Wipeout.  You made me feel young calling me "love"  Kiss
I have no doubts that you're young (although I'm pretty young to use that word, so I've been told! :P).

I'm off to bed and tomorrow I will try this new Heimdall toy that everyone is raving on about (apparently it's tons better and safer than Odin!). Night everyone. :>

Mate, 3 people so far being able to get it. Certainly not everyone. hahaha... Sorry, but I've been on Samsung's case for weeks now and I'm sick of them, and your "but everyone should be able to do it" doesn't help my sore head. :P

For sh!ts and giggles I rebooted into recovery and applied the UOT Kitchen zip file and the jolly +++ go back +++ options worked just fine.

Phone is booting up as I type and if I weren't typing correctly I'd have my fingers crossed (Lord knows how R2D2 figured out I could touch type - maybe he's worked out how old I am and that I'd have been taught properly at school - on a typewriter no less!).

Will I ever learn??  Yep, by doing stuff like this.  Getting myself into hot water, and then getting out of it :-D

And the result is [drum roll]

[dances around the dining room table, bashing into chair, tripping over cats, tumbling over cables and cords]

We have lift off!  (aka as success)

Now to determine how much battery life is sucked from this sucker overnight.  Currently at 99%

Night all.

Maybe u can try to use the "Kies Registry Patcher 1.6" to select VFNZ firmware version.  You should be able to update then.
Here's the link.  You'll have to register , but it's free.

Good to hear you've come back from the dead Ms Neets, and beautifully typed.

I have a battery update that I'm about to post in the appropriate thread, which regrettably will possibly p!ss lokhor off a gnat's. But c'est la vie and other foreign jibberish.

What's with people speaking in French to me?

Anyway, overnight my battery drain was 40%.  Rediculous!

I've decided to change modem as it sounds like this will often fix exceptional battery drain.

So while at breakfast I flashed a new modem, JPP but it wont connected to 3G.  The symbol shows in the status bar and it looks like it's working but I can't get a connection to Gmail, nor will Foursquare work.

Before leaving home for breakfast I downloaded another (BUJP5) modem which I'm about to flash.

Not happy that I can't connect to 3G.  Boo.

Nope, no joy with connecting to 3G data with the BUJP5 modem either.  Darn.

Wow you guys have been busy. I'm still reluctant to flash anything new. I have been watching @supercurio on twitter, he has been trying to get the NexusS kernel working on the SGS.

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

DDJP6 is also a no go.  I'll see if the VPN settings are correct in the phone.  I haven't touched them.  Maybe Doc has them pre-configured in his ROM and has them wrong.  That would be the best outcome, otherwise I'm not sure what I'll do.

There is one other mention of vpn issues with Doc's rom which has been added to DrD's most excellent and informative list over on the xda forums.

Sure enough, this morning I've found Darkyy's rom is now v5.5. Guess I'll be waiting again to see that its without critical bugs.

Yes, it was set up wrong.  The IP address had a leading zero.  This: 172.30.38 became 172.030.038, even then I think it was wrong as there was a double zero at the end.

Anyway, I'm all back on 3G data but I can't send a PXT.  And that's after restoring my APNs :(

I'll have to go back several (10s) pages to see what R2D2 managed to do to get his working again.  I've not yet tested I can make/receive a call or send a txt for that matter :)  But I've got data back.

Right, one more from me.  The only thing not working as it was since flashing Doc's v4 JPU rom is PXT.

I've gone back to look at what happened with R2D2 and it came down to the +6421600600 number.  Mine has retained that.

I've restored my APN's.  I'm using the very same ones that have worked in the past.

Is there some trick I've overlooked?  I wondered if you can't sent a PXT until you've received a text or something.  Well I've received a TXT.

Does anyone know if there's something peculiar to this, maybe you have to hold your tongue a certain way??  Cheers.
