Update to my PXT dilemma: I can send a PXT *if* I've got a data connection. I'm 98% sure I didn't have to have a internet connection previously. Besides that, my hubby sends me a PXT and he's not connecting to the Internet before sending.

I can only see his sent PXT (and send one myself) if I've connected to the Internet. Have I lost my marbles?

No you're quite sane my dear; just tried sending an MMS with 3G disabled and it sat there doing nothing. Even enabling wi-fi (still without 3G) didn't help. It seems 3G is the only way to send them?

That's nuts. So you're paying to send a MMS as well as paying for the data connection. On my previous two phones I didn't have to connect to the Internet. I'm not even sure one of them had been configured for the Internet.

And as I say, my hubby isn't connecting to the internet. Something's not right here.

Pxt is just an annex to the sms spec. Not sure how come it's working when you're connected to the internet via 3G (or whatever data service you're getting when you send/receive), but not working when you're not connected to the internet via 3G. If data is working, then it's working for all, independently. Weird science.

My juju medicine here is that you delete each APN and reconfigure them from scratch. Restart the phone after you delete the APNs so that there's no residual data in the device that can override your fresh set.

I hope that makes sense.

Stink Neets, you seems to be going from one problem to another. :(

Well, I'm just trying to get my head around Heimdall. I have messaged Ben, who created this software. I've had few questions before I begin using it. Once I have my questions answered, I will give the bootloader method flashing a go, which at this stage has no bricked phones reported. It uses Windows drivers instead of ones from Samsung and apparently tones safer than Odin, not only for bootloader fixing, but for any firmware flashing (so they claim). So this can potentially give you guys something to work with.

Will report back. :>

No, not wifi, I've turned that off. To connect to the internet I've been using mobile data. I can't figure out what's different. I already had a headache and this isn't helping :-)

No, not wifi, I've turned that off. To connect to the internet I've been using mobile data. I can't figure out what's different. I already had a headache and this isn't helping :-)

So, in summary, you have 3G turned off, and wifi turned off. So you're relying on 2G for your data transmission and reception?

Txting works in this state, but Pxting does not? Internet works in 2G also?

Then, enablng 3G also enables Pxting?

Correct me if I'm wrong Neets, but you're saying Pxting used to work in 2G, but no longer does?

FWIW, I have never attempted to send a pxt when not connected to 3G, and wasn't aware it might not work. What method are you using to disconnect your data? Bearing in mind that APNdroid is known for failing to disconnect data completely in some phones.

Hopefully those questions will ignite a flash of inspiration in your geek brain (as opposed to your reptile brain etc) and you'll be posting the fix in minutes.

I never send MMS, I just use email for pictures and videos. I'm sure it does require a data connection though since it would be using an HSDPA connection to send it and it just wouldn't charge you data costs for it.

Hi

I just flashed the stock JPU firmware using Odin. Everything seems to have gone according to plan, except that i've now got no internet access on my phone. I've tried both mobile 3g and wifi to no avail. Wifi/3G is showing as connected, but no data is being sent or received. What could be the problem? I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to flashing new firmware.

Logically then, the ROM is at fault. Process of elimination.

I am also having this trouble with darky's 5.4.

MMS uses an internet connection to your telco network's server to deliver the mms for further processing and transmission to the destination. Connections to this sever from within the network are charged at a set rate and connections using it that attempt to connect to other servers are blocked. E.g. it's a specialized one use only connection.

If it works with a prior 3g connection, then there is something causing the mms only settings to be corrupted, ignored, or otherwise short circuited. It's not initiating them properly. It may be anywhere in the rom, but I would think it's in the code handling the mms connection (in stead of the modem itself, since that seems to work).

I doubt you will be charged for 3g data when sending a mms; surely data sent to the mms server is a set rate; data to other servers will be per meg. This suggests a work around: just use the internet connection until the code is fixed. Turn it off afterward. Annoying though....

If this problem is not being talked about on xda etc, it may be a NZ only problem - which would bring it back to the csc. But if so, why did it work previously? Does 2.2.1 use the csc is some new way?

Anyway, just my thinking out loud.

Ok so this is weird. I restored a nandroid backup I made before I flashed 2.2.1, but now that i'm back to stock 2.2 I still have the same problem. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Sounds like you need to add the APN settings for your provider.
