Sounds like you need to add the APN settings for your provider.

Yes, I'd agree.

Menu button | Settings | Wireless & Networks | Mobile Connections | APN (click that line).

Then follow the instructions provided on the Geekzone Android forum. There's a sticky note there with all the APN's for the NZ Carriers.

Well, I'm just trying to get my head around Heimdall. I have messaged Ben, who created this software. I've had few questions before I begin using it. Once I have my questions answered, I will give the bootloader method flashing a go, which at this stage has no bricked phones reported. It uses Windows drivers instead of ones from Samsung and apparently tones safer than Odin, not only for bootloader fixing, but for any firmware flashing (so they claim). So this can potentially give you guys something to work with.

It's strange. I usually don't come up against any problems. All I feel like I've done on the forum is weep about the little problems I've got. Sorry for all the complaining.

There's only really a couple of things:
Inability to take a ROM Backup (haven't tried since the first failure)
Can't change my CSC - contacted Bloodrider
Can't sent MMS without being connected to data

And my latest one which will make lokhor appear as if he's got tremendous battery life. Overnight from 9:45pm to 5:30am my battery drained from 90% to 15%.

Yay me. I know you're all jealous

I'll give it a try with turning wifi off when the screen is asleep. Or I'll go back to the previous modem I was using on Doc's v9 rom.

See, it's not all bad :-)

EDIT: Should mention that yesterday at work I went from 1pm to 8pm with around 22% battery usage, and that was with a fair amount of phone use (for me), but connected to mobile data until I got home around 6:30pm, then I was switching between Wifi and mobile testing the MMS stuff.

I've only experienced this once so far - went from 90% to dead overnight.

Though I'd like to see what the OS says about battery use first (no metrics logged when dead, funnily enough), I think you're on the right track with the modem. This smacks of a power management issue, and a circuit or algorithm that should be mostly dormant is being left live.

I know this sounds silly, but still, wont hurt (and you may have done this anyway), have you shut down the phone and powered it back up since setting the APN settings?

Otherwise, I'd be inclined to nip into your carriers shop and ask for their assistance. Sounds like you've got everything set up correctly, and I presume it was working prior to using Odin. Perhaps using Odin is the only thing that's making you doubt everything is in order.

I have rebooted several times with no effect. This seems weird, because I flashed this 2 nights ago just to test Odin (was the first time using it), it went fine, but then i decided to go back to my nandroid backup (2.2 JPO). The internet was working as per normal. Last night I then decided i'd probably like to use JPU, so I flashed it again using Odin. This is when the internet refused to work via any application or connection type. I don't think there was any problems during the flash as everything went fine. Perhaps I need to flash back the stock vodafone nz firmware? I think there may be a compatibility issue but admittedly i don't really know what i'm talking about.

There are many people on here that have gone from stock VNZ firmware to JPU or modded variation of JPU so I don't know that flashing back to the VNZ firmware will necessarily do it. But then there's no harm doing it either. Just going to be another 5-10 minutes.

Or you could just flash JPU again on top of your existing JPU. I've read plenty of times where people going on Docs roms have to flash it twice so it's not uncommon.

If you went back to your ROM backup (2.2) why not use APN Restore (free app on the market) and take a backup of your APN settings and then when you go to JPU, restore those APN settings. I can't guarantee it'll work but again, no harm can be done using that app either :)

ok, wow. False alarm there. Turns out the firmware on my god damn wireless ROUTER was playing up. Reflashed it to the latest version and now internet is working. Why I failed to check with another device whether wifi was working or not is beyond me. Too many long hot days. Thanks anyway neets :D

I am wondering if it might be worth while for the more advanced users of the phone to put together a tips and tricks thread.

I have found one, how to do a screen capture:
Press the return key and at the same time press the Home key (middle button). The screen capture is saved in the Screen Capture folder on the internal memory. Not sure if the method will work on 2.1, works on Froyo.

I don't think so, no. Only because Samsung NZ doesn't have any dates, I assume that it applies for both, Telecom and Vodafone.

It should be out, when I called telecom up they seemed to think it was out. As far as I know my phone is being shipped back with the 2.2 update as well.

I'm obviously not Neets, but I'm butting in anyway.

JPU was somewhat trickier to get everything going than previous updates, but the end benefits for me have made it worthwhile. This ROM has delivered the kind of user experience that fanboys wet themselves over. It's an absolute pleasure to use with the most responsive interface you could hope for. The pain in setting it up will count for nought once it's performing as it can. I don't want to get into a p!ssing contest with fans of other operating systems, especially those that are claimed to "just work" when most of us getting 2.2.1 running at its best have jumped through a hoop or ten. But at the end of the day, you're using the absolute mutt's nuts in smartphone state of the art while they're using something noticeably not so.

That makes it worth the travails to get there, in my humble opinion.

So keep at it folks. Smartphone nirvana just got a heck of a lot closer.
