Forgotten: Wow, the video quality is really good, hadn't tried that yet.

My work was in the daytime video :), didn't realise you lived in Hamilton too.

Yes know your building :-) My brother (RIP) was there now and then managing the Hamilton branch of Yellow Pages.

Incidently, I work in the same building as your 123 Team. They had floors 4 5 6. Now just 5 and 6. We took over floor 4 when some of the work was transferred to Manila.

Small world Laughing

Haha yea very small world.

So have just finished flashing Doc's V6.2 XXJPY, going to flash the JK4 modem next then try get Swype working.

Once all that's done will restore contacts using Kies then try to progressively restore apps using Titanium backup.

Might be done sooner than I thought!

Miraculously I have network connectivity without flashing the JK4 modem, though the signal is fluctuating quite a bit (and the cell site is literally upstairs). Won't flash the modem till I see how it performs at home - where I was testing it earlier.

Onto getting Swype working. :)

Until 7am ;D

So Swype won't restore from the Titanium backup because it's a system app and is part of the ROM, so Titanium backup has only backed up the data, not the actual apk. Luckily I grabbed the .apk and the .so files before I flashed XXJPY so I'll try restore them manually now and see what happens.

So, Swype installed and functioning, used Root Explorer to copy the .apk and lib files from XXJPU and put them on XXJPY.

Have one thing left to do which is restore contacts, but for the time being my phone doesn't want to start the Kies USB mode (mass storage works, just not Kies).

Signal is still fluctuating quite a bit, picking that when I get further away from the site my signal will tail off quite quickly and I'll be forced to flash the JK4 modem, but for now (once I get it to talk to Kies) I'm happy.

Good job!

Just backup your contacts to Gmail - makes it easy to restore in the future.

Yea have just done this now, couldn't get the phone talking to Kies in the end so saved my contacts in Kies as .vcf and then added each one individually into the phone (copied them all across then accessed them one by one using root explorer). Took a loooong time, was probably an easier way to do it, but I syncd them up to my Gmail account as I went so I'm futureproofed hopefully...

So I'm 100% up and running now, have absolutely no reason for Kies now that I've got my contacts syncd up to Gmail so I'm not concerned about getting that fixed. Now I can settle down into the usual soak period after flashing to see battery drain etc. :)

For now though I'm fiddling around with Navigon, used market enabler to get it for free, going to see if it can get me home in a couple of hours.

If anyone needs the Swype files to get Swype working on Doc's V6.2 XXJPY let me know and I'll upload them somewhere. Not really sure why Doc took it out of his new ROM, it's been in all the old ones.

Errrrm, just one more thing, can I somehow import messages from my n95 to SG? Perhaps via PC Suite  or Ovi?

So, just arrived home, sure enough no XT reception being picked up by the phone.

Going to flash the JK4 modem now. On a bright note though I tried Navigon on the way home and really liked it. If anyone is using their i9000 for navigation would highly recommend getting it (plus it's free if you do it right!).

edit: Took the modem slightly longer than I would've thought to lock on to the network (was only an extra few seconds). But have full bars of signal strength now!

I suspect you're sleeping the day away (your night).  Here's the link from Doc's thread for the MTP application which is needed to talk to Kies.

How do you get Navigon for free? I've installed Market Enabler, and tricked it to thinking I'm on T-Mobile (US) and used the Market to search for Navigon, but it's showing a US$ cost.  TIA

Not to worry.  I found this post on Geekzone and went to the XDA discussion and found the name of the app is not Navigon but MobileNavigator and now it's downloading.

That was a heap of fun.  The navigation app is really good.  We've also adopted the name "Amy" (as explained on the XDA thread - Jeremy Clarkson named the voice).

We only tootled a few k's to the local supermarket and clearly knew our way.  I drove home so hubby could see what was happening.  I took many detours (as many as you can with only 2km) to see how the app reacted.

Hubby is pretty impressed.  Though there's no replacement for my excellent map reading skills Tongue out  I kid you not, even hubby doesn't hesitate to admit how good I am with maps.

If you've not yet got MobileNavigator, I'd recommend it.  It's free using the MarketEnabler app (free on the market).  You've got nothing to lose.  Follow the link I posted above for the settings to change in MarketEnabler so you can see MobileNavigator in the market.

Right, now off to find something else new I can do with the phone.  Does it ever end?  I hope not.  This is too much fun.

How are you finding the call quality on JK4? I've also got a Telecom SGS and people are always complaining that I sound distorted. Have been through quite a few modems but nothing seems to give decent calls. Even the modem from Telecom's 2.2 update is crap.
