It's really interesting, there is obviously a design fault with this device - either in the software or the gps chip itself - but people aren't jumping on it like they did the iPhone "death grip" issue.

My thoughts are that in fact this seems to be a worse problem in that the gps rarely works if ever and yet from reports I've read the iPhone rarely drops calls. Seems a case of iHate to me.

Anyway, I'll will definitely hold off getting my new device until ALL of these issues are fixed - Apple/Samsung/Android. You never know there may be better and more powerful devices by then as well.

Yeah, I agree - the whole iPhone 4 antenna thing was overblown. This gps issue is definitely disappointing. I hope Samsung provide a fix as the phone is very nice.

Agreed, I think the reason people haven't jumped on Samsungs' back is the fact that GPS is a secondary function to most.  Plus unlike Apple, they have said that there is an issue and that they are working on a fix to solve it.  Unlike Apple who told people it was "the way you were holding it", then "a software issue", then "a hardware issue, which we'll fix by making your phone bigger than you ever wanted it with a bumper".  Hopefully Samsung get a fix for it soon though, although mine isn't far off, but then again I'm using the 3rd XDA Developers GPS fix and while mostly accurate it's sometimes 10-20 meters off, so when I"m driving down SH1, it's saying i'm on the hard shoulder, sometimes driving in the water near the coastal highways

GPS will be barely used by me, but I want a fix as much as anyone else...Just so I know I didn't buy a lemon.

Hopefully because of Samsung releasing the phone here within the next 3 months (according to hear-say) we will be able to use local places for repair.

Still waiting for my phone to arrive. /sigh, guess it will be next week.

I've got a thin plastic crystal style case, it's wonderful to preserve the life of the phone.  For one like mine mentioned a few pages back, I'd wait about a week or two, I think there might be some coming up on Trademe soonish for a lot cheaper than what's currently going

Excellent, thanks. The crystal case is what I am after right now, so I'll keep an eye on Trademe.

My galaxy S arrived today!

I don't have a reverse travel adapter so I can just charge it through the usb cable? Even for the first charge? Can I use it whilst charging?

Thanks.

Ugh! I skipped over the battery charging pages., data cable charger connected and phone turning on.

Unlucky :(

I thought I would have to wait until Monday to get it, but it was on the doorstep and there was no knock on the door...just sitting there...

Hope you can get yours soon.

I've been searching for a while but have found no answer, is there any way to put apps onto the phone from my computer? I don't have a wireless network at home so I can only connect through the usb cable.

Also, I downloaded Kies but when I open up the Samsung marketplace thing it says it isn't compatible with this phone...(Selecting a phone only shows the option for an S8500 and S8500L) I downloaded the Galaxy S Kies file from the UK website.

I got the free NFS:shift from that, no way to install. (Greyed out 'install' and when I try to straight transfer it says That the file type cannot be transferred.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can tick "Unknown sources" under: Settings, Applications

That'll allow you to run .apk files straight off your SD card!

Then once you have some in the internal/external SD, go into Apps, My Files, then find the App and click run, then choose run with "Marketplace installer"  and it'll install
