Uninstalling unwanted apps. I've got apps I don't want, like Layar, Calendar and many others. I used to be able to uninstall with Titanium but I can't. I can't uninstall with the Market or under the Application (from Menu).

When I've tired to uninstall in Titanium I'll get a *.apk not found.

I'm still puzzled why I've got a /mtp folder which is a complete duplicate of my original file structure. I proved this today by taking a photo. The same photo was in /mnt/sdcard/external_sd/DCIM/Camera as it was in /sdcard/external_sd/DCIM/Camera.

And while I'm on the things that puzzle me. I still can't get the market and my phone sharing the love. I've added an app in AppBrain to install. When I run the AppBrain application on my phone it doesn't see the (now three) applications I've selected to install, and it doesn't see the 3 applications I've tagged on the AppBrain website to uninstall.

Has anyone come across this odd things before? How can I get rid of apps from my phone if I can't do it through Titanuim - which has worked perfectly for me before. Cheers.

What sort of things make Android OS use so much battery?

Afaik the only things I have running in the background are Tasker and JuiceDefender.
Background data and Auto-Sync is enabled for 2 Gmail accounts.

The only thing I can think of that might use battery is Beautiful Widgets Home Weather widget that updates every 12hrs and LauncherPro Friends widget that updates facebook and twitter hourly.

I'd probably get rid of:
AutoKiller
Tasker
Juicer
Engadget wizard(Uses up lots of battery, heaps of threads about that, easier just checking the mobile site every hour :))
Advanced Task killer(update to latest official release and use Samsung task killer)

Apart from that, i don't see much else that could be doing it

Beautiful widgets home is fine, that's exactly what i have and it updates hourly! you could change it to 4 hours if you were really worried though

Also:
what about GPS do yuo have that disabled most of the time? only on when needed? and Wifi the same?
And how far do you drain the battery? I usually do it down to 6%, sometimes the full way to 0% before charging

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

Autokiller doesn't run in the background afaik it just changes the default memory levels that Android closes applications.

I don't think Tasker should be an issue and don't want to remove it as it's a paid app that has many useful functions such as opening my music player when headphones are plugged in, turning my phone to vibrate during work hours, turning off autosync when I'm sleeping etc.

I can try to stop using JuiceDefender and see if that makes a difference, it is supposed to help with battery life though.

I don't really use Engadget so guess I can uninstall that.

As for Advanced Task Killer, I don't actually have it running in the background and only use the widget to occasionally kill applications. I dislike the built in task manager as it is really easy to kill LauncherPro by mistake and ATK allows me to specify which tasks to kill when I press the widget.

I have GPS disabled except for when I am using it which is not very often. Wifi is turned on when at home, not at work. I usually drain the battery to 15% and swap it out for my spares then charge it on the wall charger. My reception at work is usually not too bad, although it only has Edge speeds not 3G or HSDPA.

That's really odd eh, they are official Samsung batteries too? Not cheap Ebay Samsung copies?

You'd notice Phone Standby going up quite a bit in a bad coverage area, like mine :S I get hardly any 3g or cell signal in my office, I can move a meter either side of my desk and i'll get 2 bars, but otherwise I get none at all

the spare ones are from spider-foot so they aren't official ones. the performance of the official one that came with it is just as bad as those ones though.

lokhor: I'm using JuiceDefender. Not sure why my battery life is so poor. I have 2 extra batteries that I got with the wall charger I ordered and they are even worse. I'm running JM1 official with Voodoo Lagfix. My battery life has been terrible since I got the phone, at times it would run out around 2pm at work.

Interesting. I'm on the same JM1+Voodoo, and my battery life is also pretty bad, will usually run out before I get home unless I charge it at work. I thought it was because I play podcasts in the car via bluetooth (about an hour a day) but maybe this firmware is power hungry? I also run tasker, but likewise wouldn't want to stop using it (its only set up for event driven tasks anyway).

A guy who works at Vodafone has a Galaxy S and he said the accelerometer seems to eat up a lot of battery. When he turns off the sensitivity to orientation he said his battery life was noticeably better.

My own phone shows the screen using 54% of all power....and I have it on auto-brightness. I also tend to use it a lot, so that statistic makes sense anyway.

What does your phone say has been using the battery?

Updating to the latest version of Kies works fine.
No new firmware available for the phone though.
Icons on bottom right hand corner now show

I get really bad battery performance unless I turn off 3G and force the phone to use 2G only.

Interesting thing is, I was in the country (Taranaki way) during the weekend and my battery easily lasted all weekend even while using 3G. The extended 3G coverage where I was seemed way better than the 3G coverage in Auckland.

In my Battery History which you can access using the code *#*#4636#*#* I have noticed that under Sensor Usage Android System is always there and currently shows 22 Minutes of Usage for today and my phone has been off the charger for 5 hours.

Has anyone who's on JPK used the Android SDK to push a ROM to your phone? I was interested in changing the battery in the Notification to one on here:

I've not used the SDK before. I think I've got my head around how to use the SDK but the instructions from the first page assume people are familiar with using this method and I think there's some *obvious* steps missing.

So you need to have your phone in debugging mode - yes?
You need to have your phone connected to your computer (that is probably so obvious)
And when they say:
Type the following in a command window: adb push framework-res.apk /sdcard/framework-res.apk
Type: adb shell

I presume you press ENTER after each of these lines (and the others after those I've copied here).

And the *.apk file you've already copied/extracted to the /tools directory of android-sdk-windows is - right?

There also seems to be a number of people who've not had success with this. I think it's to do with read/write changes to JPK. Some have said you need to add "busybox mount -o remount,rw /system"

Just wondering if anyone has done one of these and can confirm what I think needs to be done is correct. Cheers

Did a quick test... browsing the internet via 3G using the android web browser means my battery usage will run down at about 1% for every minute of usage. If I use the phone for about an hour from a full charge, then I'm left with about 40% battery life.

Thankfully I'm often around a PC, so charging via USB is not a problem. Also, the phone came with a Samsung car charger which is very useful as well.
