Looks like the JPM build could be close to final as Samsung have released the open source kernel code for it... That means Voodoo is coming to Froyo, which means its so close to making it perfect for my use (from a software perspective). Should also assist the Cyanogenmod team to bring us their ROM, which could well be something special (if for nothing else, at least it will let me dust of my Datel Retro Wireless controller!).

genesis42: Hey guys, sorry if this is OT (just signed up to Geekzone), but is the Kingston 32GB microSDHC memory card compatible with this phone? I'm looking to buy one online, so yeah, help would be really appreciated.

I'd be wary of kingston, they are an el cheapo brand.
If you look at modaco where they had a thread listing micro sdcards compatible with the ext3/ext4 lag fixes, kingston was the brand that suffered the most.  In many cases using shifting data to an external sdcard actually made the phone slower and the most used benchmark app quadrand stalls on many kingston cards.

If you can afford to pay for a better brand I would.. eg sandisk, adata etc etc...
kingston is cheap chinese stuff.....

Sadly yes, basically out of the 512MB RAM about 164MB is reserved for screen/camera/misc device drivers, and 48MB for the phone's baseband processor, so there is only around 300MB available for the Android OS and applications. In practice most apps aren't that big and the memory management keeps most of them in line, so having that much free isn't as bad as it might seem at first.

Can someone advise...

When the voodoo lagfix is installed, does the phone still lag after it being on a few days? Or can it be used day in day out without a problem?

I'm using OCLF but I find the phone needs to be rebooted every 1-2 days to remain fast and responsive...

My old iPhone would be on for weeks or months without an issue.

Voodoo doesn't suffer the same slowdowns after a day or so uptime like the OCLF does. Definitely get Voodoo on there if you're on a 2.1 firmware.

I'd say yes, reason being logistically it would make more sense to ship it already loaded with Froyo then setup OTA, and support 4 failed user attempts at upgrading, then there's bricking of the fone etc.

There are other android phones that are sold with 2.1 and as soon as you turn them on they upgrade to 2.2 , so it's possible it will come with 2.1. I don't think anyone really knows yet until it is released, especially as 2.2 is not officially available for international phones yet anyway. Also some people are saying that captivate and vibrant wont get 2.2 till 2011.

I've been following the XDA forums and it looks like it was a premature assumption that Samsung are going to release it shortly. TBH, this is my first smart phone and all, but the lack of the company's (Samsung) updates to let their customers know what is happening etc, is pretty bad. Luckily I'm not worried as much about Froyo as some do. Some talking about selling their phones! hahaha... that's just ridiculous. Maybe because it is my first smart phone I have my expectations met with what I already have.  :>

Struggling with a Kies update right now - very frustrating! Hundreds of clicks to get past "the Internet is not connected. ..." message - and still more needed! I'm up to 15755/77929 downloaded.
Has anyone succeeded in updating their Kies today?

kind regards Andrew TD

Andrew, I just found that it's easier to uninstall the existing version and get one from the nz samsung website:
