Things going from bad to worse
1 i cannot get into recovery mode what ever I do. Powerbutton abd cursor do not seem to put it into recovery mode
2. I downloaded rom manager app and pointed it at the rom on sd card
It went away asked if I wanted to backup and wpipe phone and that was it for ages
I never saw the console screens that rom manager is supposed to show.
3. Finally after some time I get a screen that says the HTC quietly brillant screen
With a logo and modacom.com address
Have tried a reboot by pulling battery. But nothing else happens just the htc modaco screen over and over
I can still boot into the hboot screen but still cannot access recovery
Will pull battery now as it looks like it will never power off
Any one got some brilliant suggestions as to where from here
Sorry to be such a pain

So you've tried renaming recover-clockwork-bravo.zip to update.zip, then put it on your SD card and tried to boot to recovery?

You don't need to. it'll automatically detect it's there. If you cannot access the SD card using the phone. Remove it,and put it your adapter and transfer it that way. Then reinsert into the phone boot to HBOOT (holding power and volume down) and then navigate to the 'recovery' option and press power to select it. Once you're in recovery, you will be able to flash a ROM of your choice. So I usggest you place a ROM on the SD card while you're putting update.zip on it.

Some ROMs don't like to be the first ROM (I have no idea why) For myself and another person who had the same issues as us, Pinky Desire worked well.

Have tried the update.zip but I still have same problems. Phone simply will not boot into recover mode. I get the HBoot screen cursor down to recovery and then when I press the power button THe phone goes to a screen with the words HTC on it nothing else.
It never goes into Recovery mode. Is there any other way to force phone into recovery mode?

Hi,

I have been reading up on some forums across the internet and still am not 100% confidence in Rooting my Baby Desire!

Although I have took changes in the past jailbreaking iphone and currently have become an expert jailbreaking the iphones - but the Desire doesnt give me the exact vibes I need to strip it naked by rooting the baby....

This is the clearest Link I have found rooting the 0.83 Desire:

Let me know what the rest of you tekki lot think?

The joys of rooting a new phone. Have my desire all up and running on Paul's mod giving me Android 2.2 after a lot of false starts.
Only one little problem now is the radio. It clicks on OK and does the scan but doesn't give any stations. Anyone had any experience with the radio?
Thanks

Doesn't it use the headphone cord as an antennae?

Yes it does and I now find out that radio is working but very weak. I am sure the signal strength was better on 2.1 but will do a search and see what I can find

I am in the same boat as you & know exactly how you feel, having repeated similar steps quite independently & have come to the same point....

Did you get past this & go on to root your device? If so, it would be great to find out how!

I know where I went wrong - thinking that I had an amoled display when really I have a SLCD & not selecting the recovery-clockwork image during the rooting process. (I've been trying to Europeanise my imported Arab version which is probably the same as yours)

Any Help would be greatly appreciated!

OK I ended up with the phone just playing dead on me. It would boot and then nothing. I played around for ages. I could boot into the boot menus but could not get an action out of the recover mode. I think problems was that with he new screen you could not see what was on the recovery menu. However there was one other option that I had not tried and that was the wipe device. I selected that and away the phone went and came up with the ANDROID logo and it was all done. Only trouble is that I dont know if the first mod worked or it was the update.zip one that worked. I tend to think it was the first bit because it came up in the modaco screen when I did about.
So I would recommend using Pauls R8 mod from modaco and his instructions but if you dont get recovery working select wipe the device and see how it goes.
I know it can be an expensive experiment if it all fails but I was wiling to take that risk as part of learning. Knwledge is never cheap
I really love all the extra stuff I can do with my phone now and are very happy with it.
Cheers.

Thanks for that....

I didn't know how close I was. I just needed the right unrooted rom in zip format to point to.  Which for me came in the form of Nickiberli's Rooted Official HTC Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM I found this over on the xda site & it works a treat!

Thanks all you guys!
