Greekiwi: What do you guys reckon the chances of the Desire Z being compatible with XT?

It supports 850, 900, 1900, and 2100 mhz frequencies, although it seems it doesn't do umts on 850mhz.

 http://www.htc.com/www/product/desirez/specification.html

If the specs stay as stated, does this mean I could chuck an XT sim card in it and still be alright for 3G data while I am in Wellington? I live in Wellington and hardly ever leave so it wouldn't be a huge problem.

Yes. XT will work where there is a 2100 coverage.

who need warranty...
with that price from clove.co.uk
u can save over $300 than price in nz
that saving is enough for 2-3 year phone insurance

btw i dont trust those private importer and smaller dealer on market, who know what trick they have in their warranty...

gonna wait for 1 month and see whats the price change and maybe there will be a better omap phone

don't like htc sense i still prefer stock android = personal preference :p

when the phone get into nz it should be around 1200 ex gst
so u add 15%  on top of that which should come to 1380 nzd
and clove price is only 808 nzd ex delivery
now u can do the math :p

weird... assuming we dnt have to pay the VAT it talks about on the site thats 420.00 GBP, which is nz$ 903.
(+ any currency conversion fee) which is nz$ 955 including shipping.

And since mobicity already includes the gst (if bought now is only 12.5%)
price including shipping is nz$1116.60 or $1091.34 if i use the code sn10

I might be prepared to part with that extra $150 if i can use CGA on them if needed...

it is NZ warranty. mobicity.co.nz pay for the GST - so the price you see on their website is including GST.

It's about time someone told them that there is no Telecom NZ 2G network which is advertized with all their fones they sell. There seems also to be a high price premium if the fone is XT compatible..

Perhaps because there are fewer XT compatible handsets?

Maybe but they have Telstra NextG over there so there should be a few around plus the AT&T ones but they may not be available for general sale outside the US..

That's... disappointing to say the least. Do I still get this over the Galaxy S is the question now. The software on the galaxy S is the problem, but once you have installed a lag fix and custom launcher it's probably livable.

I tried emailing these guys to ask about their repair capabilities, emails were bounced saying mailbox full. OK tried to call, first time no answer second time disconnected. Then there is their website, which doesnt inspire me with confidence.

If I was going to buy off Mobicity I would certainly try and make contact with Buy Low first to make sure they can actually repair the model phone you are going to buy.

Maybe someone in here has actually used Buy Low and can comment on their capabilities?

That sucks, it's even confirmed in the press release http://www.htc.com/www/press.aspx?id=144266&lang=1033
and they even took down the video on youtube that stated it was slcd. Thinking of cancelling the pre order now..
