Yep S-LCD.
I have had previous phones (albeit dumb phones) that you just cannot see the screen in daylight, also my digital camera suffers the same issue, my desire however, can see fine.

I'm very keen to buy one of these.

Had been holding off from buying a Desire for the last couple months because of the news on this. Definitely thinking of waiting till the first verdicts are out though. If things go sour I'll probably stick with the Desire.

Price has also gone up on mobicity but down on clove.

I think MobiCity bases its prices on the currency AU-NZ currency as they are an Australian company. So you may see fluctuations.

Yes - people often see only "headlines" about strength or weakness in NZD.  If you compare cross-rates in early July with ones today (a few minutes ago), you will see that the NZD has dropped against the AUD from around 0.823 to 0.770 (drop of over 6%) whereas the GBP/NZD cross rate has gone from 0.473 to just under 0.472 (drop of around 0.3%).   As AUD has strengthened against GBP, one might have expected Aussie prices (in Australia, in AUD) for same item to drop w.r.t British prices, but depends if you were looking at Mobicity in NZD or AUD.

Of course, even currency fluctuations are far from being the only answer to various shifts in pricing across countries, so th above is not intended to be an "answer", just an illustration of one reason for differences to arise over time.

Oh I'm aware of currency fluctuations. So not too surprised with the change.

using conversion rates today still means the one from clove ends up slightly cheaper than before

For those that haven't been reading on XDA, it now seems it does have a SLCD screen after all:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=789453&page=17

Or at least, that's what the HTC customer reps have been consistently saying.

I think its best to wait for some reviews (cant be long now its meant to be released in 4-5 days time).

We all know CSRs can make mistakes. There is more evidence saying it's not SLCD.

Bad news guys, the HD has been delayed until "late October" according to Clove:

It hasn't cleared "Google testing" yet.

Yeah sad to hear of the delay, have targeted this phone as my first Android phone, my N900 is getting tired and I am not a lover of fruit phones. There seems to be more integration of what people want from a phone from Google and HTC. I have a friend in the UK, when could she say walk into a store and purchase a phone? ALso Where?

But won't your friend have to pay VAT (17.5 soon to be 20%)?

I've been exchanging emails with Clove regarding the HTC Desire HD.

There is no confirmed date for their October shipment yet. They don't know how many phones are coming in this shipment yet either but they also have a shipment arranged for November.

They have a huge number of pre-orders (including mine).

For anyone thinking of pre-ordering the phone and getting it shipped to someone in the UK or Europe just be aware that as a mail-order company Clove is unable to provide any of the document necessary for getting a VAT refund. EU requirements call for certain documentation (not just the invoice) and without this VAT can't be claimed back.

I'm in Europe shortly after the phone is released but phone + shipping + VAT works out a lot more expensive than getting it sent here and paying the NZ taxes, blast it!

I preordered two from them on sept 25th... any idea how likely to be in first shipment? Don't really want to bother them myself, I'm sure they have a ton of people beating down their door to find out when their phones are going to be shipped :)
