grudge: ah it's tricky, i'll give it a try later.
Pocket legends (mmo) works on this phone pretty smooth with low textures (@710mhz).

Angry Birds is fairly laggy on my stock 845.  But hey... it works :)

Pretty good review. I wanted to try out one of the custom roms on my mum's 845 but unfortunately she has cracked the screen and I think it will give out fairly soon.

Love the phone, but, the tracker goes nuts in the sun and the cursor leaps around, making texting outdoors very difficult.

I was thinking of buying this for my parents. I thought they might find txting on a qwerty on screen keyboard easier than T9 txt which they have trouble with. Also I can customise the homescreen so it only has 3 icons - TXT MSG / PHONE / CONTACTS. Do you reckon this phone is ok for old people, I want to buy them something very cheap as they don't use the phone often.  My other idea was to get them an E63.

Anyone have "issues" with the headphone jack?

Let me explain;

1) When I first plugged my headphones all I heard was loudish static (no music playing).
2) Playing music with the built in app sounded really really really bad - like listening to a small speaker in a tunnel. Coming from an n95 this was somewhat dissapointing especially since I would use it when flying for work.
3) I tried a few other media players from the market but same results so I gave up ever thinking of using it as a mediocre music player
4) Then I happened to try PowerAmp (Trial) the other night and suddenly it sounds great. Same for the built in app and others - so Im thinking WTF? Is it the player app, the phone or just me?
5) Now and then it does the static/tunnel thing again but I just unplug me head phones and plug them back in and its back.

So, has anyone else experienced this or is my phone defective?

Thanks

I havent experimented too much with it myself, but when using the inbuilt media player the sound outputted through the headphone jack has been horrible just as you describe - i would call it echo-ey

Does it do that stupid thing where, when set to silent mode, if you pull the headphones (which was probably at full volume since the outputs on phones is so pathetic) it will blast you out the speaker with whatever you were listening to?

I dropped my phone once in a library and it unplugged and get me way too much unwanted attention.

Yes, thats what I was getting. Try pausing your music and unplugging/reinserting your heaphones. Seems to fix it for me. Cant seem idenitfy how/why/when the problem occurs though.

I get the same but I put it down to my headphones. The ones I use normally on my mp3 player have this mic-on-wire and although my mp3 player treats it properly when I use them on my phone I get the same quality you do (sounds a bit better if i push the mic button down), while testing a pair of headphones with no mic-on-wire it sounds ok with the default music player.

The lack of standard for ground placement or mic pullup and control on the 4th pole of the jack means plugging anything with a headset into any other device is pretty hit and miss, usually miss. Would be nice if the phone co's could have standardized it but thats just wishful thinking, failing that everyone should copy nokia IMO.

It's a hard call.... I'd say on one hand they would prefer the keyboard of an E63, because of the tactile feedback and that it's understandable....(I came from an E71 to a touch screen).  But then if they need simple and you toss them a full keyboard device they'll throw their hands up in horror because all those keys make it look quite complex.....

If you can get their views when the handle each handset type, and they'll answer your question for you.
