hugeaction: Does anyone know of a good car charger for this phone?

I gave up trying to buy car chargers for every little thing I own. Instead, I bought a $69 DC to AC car power inverter. It plugs into the DC power socket in the car and the other end has a normal old power point like on the wall in your house. I plug a 4-point power brick into mine and we charge our phones and iPods all at the same time while the car is rolling along. or a laptop...or whatever.

One power device.....serving all functions possible up to 150w / 4 amps (total).

Easy. Cheap. Flexible. Reliable.  Crazy not to.

USB charging is OK...but it can take twice as long as using the phone's power adapter.

richms: Friend got one at the warehouse for $168 today, and an extended warranty to 3 years for $16. He was totally complaining that you have to push on the screen and its not as big as his old HTC etc, but comparing it to the $55 samsung piece of junk he bought to hold him over till the HTC comes back, its about a million times better than the samsung because it has 3g, camera, bluetooth, gps, wifi, etc.

IMO you are an idiot to buy anything else in that price range unless you need 850MHz, or a specialist rugged phone etc. the sony ericssons etc around that price range cant do squat compared to the 845. I dont know if vodafone are heavily subsidizing these or if thats the true cost of them, but it appears that there may be a decent phone out of chinas own brands finally.

The IDEOS would also be an excellent phone. A bit more expensive, but already running Android v2.2.

Errr not. The device uses a microUSB port to charge off, the car charger will charge just as fast. By using a transformer you're just adding unnecessary steps, wires, bits, heat, etc. IIRC the one I got was <$15.

USB charging allows for up to 1.7 amps of charge current, USB without anything to identify properly as a USB charging spec compliant chargert will only take 500mA. Most car adapters are made for apple not the proper spec so will only go 500mA.

Maybe. I have owned a few phones now...and the power adapter usually charges the phone at twice the speed of a USB connection to a device pretending to be a PC USB port.

The 845 uses a USB cable....sure...but that doesn't mean it's own power adaptor won't charge it faster than something pretending to be a computer.

Plus the DC to AC inverter with power socket allows several devices to charge at once....and a bespoke charger for a single device can't do that.

Whatever.....if it works, it works.....My way works really well for a family of several people with at least two devices each that need charging.

Plus the missus can do the ironing and make toast while you head to your destination, brilliant!

But seriously you need to be a little careful using these as they tend to output square waves rather than sine (unless you buy a sine wave version), some power supplies dont like square waves up em.

It doesn't come with a stylus. But I have about 10cm of a knitting needle with a rounded tip that I can  use as style us I want. It works fine. But usually I just use my finger. I use the "SlideIt" swiping keyboard and that makes typing easier on the 845.....for me, anyway.

Its a way of typing by 'swiping' your finger across the keyboard:

it'd probably pay to pick up an 845's charger and check what output it is, rather than be an 'internet' expert.

Oh it's 400ma by the way ;)

try graffiti with a stylus, once you learn it input on an 845 is a breeze.
