Thanks,
The apps in I tried were Easy Reminder and Missed Reminder I'll try to contact the authors of these apps first, I suspect this will be an issue for many people, so it would be good to get something working in the market.

Well I got mine working in the end. What I did was get a micro-SD card reader and chuck it into my Linux box and formatted the SD card with a FAT32 partition for the data and an ext4 partition for the apps. I then copied the CT firmware mentioned previously and replaced the OS on the phone. Since then it's worked perfectly, and the driver CD appears in Windows again when there's no SD card installed. Overall I'm pretty happy, my fingers can be a bit fat for the on screen keyboard sometimes but it seems pretty quick and the screen is good enough for what I need it for. Excellent value for $175.

As a first time smartphone user I am in love with this phone, i flashed it with the celestial teapot rom and used the 691.2MHz overclock patch. All is well.
There's one thing that I can't seem to get to work, the phone doesn't seem to like trying to read barcodes or QR codes, did anyone have luck with this and could recommend me an app ?

edit: also Swype doesn't work on this, would also love a swype clone app recommandation for this phone. Using SwiftKeys at the moment.
edit2:nvm turns out SlideIT works well as a Swype type keyboard.

Well Ive had mine for a couple of days and Im sorry to say its going back.

Quite simply its the keyboard. Its been calibrated correctly with a toothpick rather than a finger and my wife has tried all three keyboard version but its just not right.

After having been on Sony's for as long as I can remember the move to a keyboard on a touch screen is a step too far for her. She has no trouble on my Nexus, but the difference in screens is night and day as far as Im concerned.

Still cracking value for what it offers for $200, just not for us in a practical sense.

The "T9" version of the keyboard seems to work pretty well. I now find it to be the best overall way to type 'generic' text input (not passwords and not other odd character strings).

You want "barcode scanner". It's an app in the Market. Android usually needs it - or one like it - to read bar codes.

Makes perfect sense. It's good enough if its good enough....and it isn't if it isn't.

Mine is good enough. ;-)

My Galaxy S is a good 'backup' (heh...) but I'm very much enjoying the complete lack of lag in the 845. Samsung need to fix the lag in the Galaxy S.....it's the main reason I'll be moving on to a new high-end phone soon (if it isn't sorted).

If Froyo can run on an HTC Magic, it can run on these even better.

Oh yeah I had the app, it seems that I've managed to get a few QR codes to read (not yours though), and I still haven't got it to read any barcodes. I think it might just be that the lens isn't that great I suppose.

I have found that the 845 has trouble with focusing on close objects. To get it to read QR code on the web, i had to magnify the page (Control + in firefox).

Are QR's even worth bothring with yet? When I last looked at them, there was no standard way that phones would interpret a business card in it, but that was on symbian however.

I found this too, then I switched to the Android keyboard and can actually type a decent text message & emails now.

To switch keyboards, press and hold on a text entry box (for example when typing a new text message) and a pop up menu will display. Change the keyboard to Android. Im totally loving that keyboard, the other one sucks big time if you dont like T9.

Also, another thing that makes typing better is to turn off the "Auto-complete" functon. Dont confuse suggestions/quick fixes with auto complete. Auto complete just randomly inserts a word for you (the red highlighted one) when you press space bar so even if you typed the correct thing it just changes it for you. My typing was junk when that was turned on.

To get to the keyboard settings hold down the "?123" key on the Android keyboard (I think it works on the other one too) and tuen auto-complete off.

The keyboard's a bit of a problem for my fat fingers too but I've started using SlideIT which seems to work quite nicely, there's a demo you can try here
