What apps are you guys using, if any over the stock android info, to monitor batteries?
I had an issue yesterday when something was going nuts and running the processor at fulltilt and chewed my battery but systempanel lite couldn't tell me what it was.

Screen time currently 04:23. Time up on this charge so far, about 34.5 hours. Battery level, 26%, voltage 3.77.

I'm at 84% after 5hrs with 48minutes of screen usage.

Currently 38% and battery voltage still 3.8.  Not sure what my time is now since I plugged the phone in via USB to copy over a file.  Would have been connected all of 2 minutes, but enough that it's now recording all time based on when I unplugged the USB.

I'm using both the SGS Tools app to locate details on the Battery History.  And also Menu | Settings | About Phone.  That's on the Samsung Galaxy S I9000 phone.

Finally put it on charge again at 13% remaining.

Total up-time was 36 hours, practically to the minute, when the 15% warning occurred. Screen time at that point was 04:50:15. Voltage at 13% was still a healthy 3.7. So battery is an excellent performer. A few more mAH wouldn't hurt, mind you, but that testing has convinced me to make the spare a genuine Samsung replacement rather than a third party jobbie.

My data cap resets in a week, so I'll be turning the 3G data back on so I can have my emails pushed once more. I know I'll get more life from the battery with it off, but on the results of the last 36 hours, that's not going to be a problem anyway.

Wifi traffic also has an effect but standby has virtually none so I'll turn that back on full time to see what happens. Very small detrimental effect I'm sure.

The screen's my biggest battery muncher, (following video playing/recording and GPS, none of which I use a lot). So in summary, the tests seem to show that I'll easily get my usual 26 hours without taking too many precautions to get it.

Which is good news as far as I'm concerned.

Looking forward to whatever tricks and tips others can share.

Cheers,
R2D2

Holy crap ArtooDetoo I am jealous. I wish my battery was that good. I should be receiving a 3500mah extended battery soon so I intend to see how well that performs. I may try to find a genuine replacement battery to see if my stock battery is somewhat of a dud. I really would like to have 15 hours of battery without worrying about turning 3g/wifi off all the time.

From the results Neets is posting, her SGS's battery performance is blowing the doors off mine. So don't envy my results too much. :D

I don't have an issue with charging my phone once a day as it'll be routine anyway. I'd be disappointed if a charge couldn't get me from 7am to 11.30pm though. It happened when I was doing heaps of GPS testing, and when in the early days I spent a lot of time watching video. But that's to be expected in such use I think. And I've learned to use USB charging when I know I'm going to be annihllating the battery charge in such ways.

Yep, could be your battery is a bit of a lemon. Let us know how the replacement/supplementary battery works out.

Yeah the 2 chinese replacement batteries I have are even worse. Is it possible that my device drains more battery for some reason?

Btw what 3g modem do you guys use? My rom has BUJP5

I've used JPP, even when I flashed the same ROM as you, I immediately went to JPP because it worked well for me in other ROMs.

A2D2, I don't have much of an opportunity to mess about with my phone during the work day.  It's really why I'm not missing having 3G running to check FB and Twitter.  Just too busy - except to check and reply to email ;-)

What do you do for a living Neets?

I guess I'll try the new K10B kernel and JPP Modem. I can't help but feel like my battery doesn't perform at the same level as other peoples.

Baseband is I9000XXJPP.

I guess there could be many reasons why one device uses more power than another - the more services running, the service overhead, poor local radio signal making the radio work harder, all manner of stuff I suppose. Even the firmware being less efficient or delivering more functionality.

It's probably your battery though, as it's doubtful that sw/fw inefficiencies would be great enough to make the difference you're seeing without it manifesting in lousy response times and dreadful interface performance, things that don't seem to materialise on your SGS. At least, not that I remember you mentioning.

I am using an ext4 lagfix. not sure if that makes such a huge difference though.

It still blows my mind that both of you get over twice the battery life that I do.

I'd like to think I'm just naturally blessed, but my physical appearance and lack of winning Lotto tickets suggest otherwise.

So I'd put it down to your having a sub-standard battery. In my AR and OCD way, I charged the battery in the phone, without turning the phone on, for at least 2.5 hours. Then I let it run until it stopped completely. And then I charged it back up to full again.

There are any number of posts and threads on the innertoobs which are quite clear that such behaviour is superstitious twaddle, entirely unnecessary and harmful to the battery, phone and possibly unborn infants globally. So I'm not presuming to recommend the practice. On the contrary. I'm sure, based on the web wisdom I have gleaned, that my battery endurance would be double what it currently is, had I not been so silly.

So there you go. I'm sure that was really enlightening. Laughing

R2D2
