I won't miss NFC and I seriously doubt it'll see much of a rollout in the useful life of our phones (2 years or so). 1st gen stuff like this is often full of problems anyhow - maybe we're better off without it. Certainly not a deal breaker for me - it is all the other stuff I'm getting one for.

I'm eagerly awaiting the SGS2 that I've ordered from clove.co.uk and I can't wait for it to arrive. I'm not too worried that it won't include NFC, it was more of a nice to have than anything else for me anyway.

My partner has also ordered an HTC Desire S from clove.co.uk as well and it's currently winging it's way to NZ via royalmail.

We've downloaded around 1GB of icons/wallpapers and created lists of applications to download getting ready to configure the UIs like many of you have done here. I love the minimalistic UI's that a lot of people have done with LauncherPro/ADW.Launcher etc.

Exciting times ahead Cool

Other than mobicity, anyone know of any NZ retailers who have the Galaxy S2 Available for dispatch when it's released?

I didn't know it was meant to have NFC in the first place so I'm not really missing anything.

You asked me about picking one up while I am in the UK didn't you? I can still do that if you want, if you can wait until the middle of July when I get back.

With a phone with specs (and reviews) like this phone, who can hold out for July?

(OK, I'm moving up from a Nokia N80, I'm excited! Mobicity, don't disappoint me.)

Yeah I couldn't either, the cost of freight was worth it, would have gone nuts otherwise.

I was the same on the first galaxy s and while I am stilli using it and enjoy it, it definitely disappoints, the camera & the gps mainly. The GPS is pretty shocking really and despite samsungs many attempts to fix it they never managed it, the whole saga just slowly vanished.. The camera quality was crap and never improved.

What stunned me was that all the initial reviews of the galaxy s were supreme..
that included the gps and camera..
and lets not forget the lag...

a week after users had their hands on it.. the main sites suddenly updated their reveiws to say the gps sucked and the camera wasnt so great....

how can you trust these same sites again?

I really hope samsung have sorted it out but this time im not going to dive in.. ill wait a couple of months before spending 1k....

When all those identical pre-ordered Galaxy SII packages from Clove roll down the conveyor belt together at NZ Customs, I wonder if their chance of attracting GST and handling charges will be increased or decreased? It seems strange that they've let some high value phones through untouched in the past, and some have been picked up.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 300 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

I think you underestimate how much crap they have to go though and what a _tiny_ percentage of parcels sgs2's will make up of that...

We should order more, then they will be busy and just throw them out the door (not literally)

That's my theory anyway.

Thats why you need my review! An actual user review, and I will be thrashing the GPS.

I reckon the weak GPS reception is an antenna design or positioning problem. This is why it isn't fixable with firmware updates. When I compare mine to a workmates LG Optimus 1 P500 he can see more satellites, gets stronger reception from the ones I can see and locks faster. It isn't super bad on mine - maybe they improved them further down the line (at least a little).

I would sincerely hope they have fixed it, the samsungmobilers reviews that have been popping up this week certainly seem promising in that regard, since they've been doing more than the pro reviewers to test out the GPS. The best phone I've ever had for GPS so far was the Samsung i8910, so its not as if Samsung can't sort it out.

I'm sure a lot of you got this

Dear XXXXX,

We are now very close to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S II I9100. Here at Clove we are very excited about the launch of what is set to be an amazing handset and we are sure that you are as well.

At this stage, we are emailing you to confirm a few details prior to launch and we also have a small request to make.

We can confirm that stock will be arriving on Wednesday 4th May and we will receive enough stock to ship your order next week. We will begin shipping orders on 4th May and we anticipate that all current orders will be shipped by Friday 6th May.

Due to the high volume of orders we have, we will be extremely busy next week.

WE THEREFORE REQUEST THAT YOU DO NOT CONTACT US (WHETHER IT BE BY EMAIL, TELEPHONE, FACEBOOK OR TWITTER) TO ASK THAT YOUR SPECIFIC ORDER CAN BE SHIPPED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THIS WILL ONLY SLOW US DOWN AND TAKE US LONGER TO SHIP ORDERS.

We have now confirmed that the UK Version of the Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 WILL NOT ship with an NFC chip. If you wish to cancel your order as a result of this, please email us on sales@clove.co.uk with the subject line stating: SGS2 ORDER CANCELLATION.

Otherwise we will proceed to ship your order next week.

Kind Regards

The Clove Technology Sales Team.
