networkn: I am gutted I missed the first shipment from Mobicity, are there any other NZ retailers/etailers who will be getting these phones at release time?

Expansys is selling the phone for $944 excl GST (http://www.expansys.co.nz/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-black-16gb-209648/). You will get stung for GST on the import, so the total price will be about the same as with Clove. Availability is listed as 5 days, which isn't bad considering it's coming from overseas.

kepster: Thanks bro. This is exactly what im thinking. Btw, where did you get your discount code from? haha

networkn: I'd be keen to know the code for free postage too.

I just did a general search for "mobicity coupon code". The code I used was SN10, which gets you $20 off the price. This nicely covered the shipping cost.

Not sure where you see 5 days at expansys:

"We have no confirmed lead time for this item - call for more details. "

Confirmed they are "looking at" 2nd week of May for the second batch of pre-orders at Mobicity.

I didn't see that text. I was looking immediately under the "Add to Basket" button where it says "Availability: Normally less than 5 days".

Email response from VFNZ re getting the S II - they don't know when and neither does Samsung.

Well I just ordered mine from MC, not my preferred supplier, but at least they will have it shortly.

I was surprised Engadget was so effusive about the SGS2, as they are normally so iPhone focused.

I'd never buy one through VFNZ. Not only do they charge RRP for the phone (making it more expensive than just about anywhere), they also customise the firmware. Customised firmware always takes forever to get updated, and if the customised update is made available at all, it's usually several months after the generic firmware.

I wish I could do the yearly upgrade that everyone else seems to be able to afford >< I just have to live with my SGS for now.

When do you think Digi Imports or eking will have it?

You'd need to contact them directly to find out.

Their dates will probably be based around when their Asian suppliers have the phone in stock. As far as I've been able to gather, only South Korea, the UK and part of the EU have stock now/next week. The rest of the EU is looking like mid-May, and most of Asia is the end of May/start of June.

I'm just guessing here, but it looks like Mobicity are getting UK stock. That means the firmware should be the generic EU firmware, which is always the first one to get updated.

First official rom update is on the samsung site:
I9100XWKDD

According to XDA forums is a modest performance increase, latest Quadrant result is 3625(i know it's not that reliable a test) but still an impressive result!

Offer a Phone rooting service, I am sure there is a big requirement for it out there. New SGS 2 $1100 minus sale of old SGS say $500, one phone rooted a week at $20 say = $1040 gives you a new SGS2 plus $440 grog money.

Or set up a finance company take the money and run.

Calm down everyone... Just go this from the PR company:

"Apologies for the correction - the Galaxy S II launch date for NZ is still TBC, not May as earlier stated."
