Hamiac: Yea.

I am itching with anticipation

That could be crabs, but all's not lost. There's apparently an efficacious cream nowadays.

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

Around 1100 plus shipping and gst for 16gb and then around 1300 for the 32gb plus shipping and gst

Damn dollar has dropped increasing the price by about $100 since last week.

NZtechfreak: The Atrix is qHD 960x540.

Yeah but its a pentile display like the galaxy s

Galaxy s2 won't be pentile and even though its a lower resolution than the atrix because its non pentile it actually will have more subpixels than the atrix so much sharper lines etc.
It should be a far superior display than the atrix.
Unfortunately we will have to wait until the s3 to get the higher res. on a s amoled + screen..

it looks to be an awesome phone, 1 gig of ram is suberb...

for me the camera will be a big thing to look at, the weakest point on the galaxy s.. oh and the gps..
we will see...
I am sure samsung would have learnt though.

Thanks for that mentalinc.  NZD sucks in general...

I agree that samsung will have fixed the GPS issues and most others on that were on the galaxy s but I would say there may be some new ones on the s II with them trying to make it too thin it may be prone to getting very hot (as some said at MWC) or with a dual core processor and the battery only being slightly bigger it may drain quickly (I see LG and Motorola seem to have beefed up their battery for the tegra 2) but in the end I will have to wait untill they come out to see what problems arise - though to be honest I will likely buy it anyway.  The camera is the biggest factor for me, the second being the screen.

It'll be interesting to see which chip they're using for the GPS. No doubt some reviewer will have the back off it to look. I'm not worried about whether it's Exynos or Tegra 2 based, 16GB or 32GB, as long as the GPS works, that'll seal the deal.

Also, I'll be happy with the camera as long as it's better than or equal to my N95. I've always treated my cellphone cameras as if they were like those old polaroid cameras, good for impromptu snaps, but not family photos etc.

As for the device getting hot? could be a combination of hot hands and continual usage by MWC attendees. Were they pluged in all the time as well?

Anyway, time will tell! *eagerly rubs his hands together* Laughing

Kind of wondering why two models with different built in storage. Why not just the 16Gig version and add a 32Gig SD card.??

So I now have a 32GB one on order from Clove, apparently they have ben told it will be available at the same time as the 16GB model. They say they have been told to expect stock end of March in their email to me, which matches up with Play's release date of the 31st of March quite nicely. I expect delays, handsets are almost always delayed, but that is the current best projection on release date. Price is sphincter-clenching indeed, but I've been saving since I got my SGS1 last June, so its OK.

Still wondering whether Samsung are including an MHL cable in the box, I suspect not, since they have always tended to sell their TV-Out cables seperately (a rather galling practice when its a top of the line handset). I may well have a source on an MHL cable anyways, so hopefully can confirm it works nearer the time.

For whatever that prerelease price is worth (probably not much, they're all speculation at present).

Its not been widely reported by reputable sellers to have been delayed to May (which is kinda what I expected initially). Was already waiting impatiently for a March release, so now thinking I will have to purchase something to tide me over in the meantime... Perhaps import an Atrix 4G or Xoom...

I read you post thinking, 'no, it will come out this month!"  then I flicked to my regular google news search for galaxy s2 and came across this:
http://www.dialtosave.co.uk/mobile/news/2011/03/07/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-delayed-until-beginning-of-may/
That makes me so sad that I become angry!!!  I have the biggest piece of crap for a phone atm but am not going to waste money on a temporary andoid phone - All or nothing!

Oh well, will just have to keep $1200 or so aside in the bank for when it is released.

*angry-sad*

Yeah so much for the email I got from clove about being late march.  Have now asked for my pre order to be cancelled :).
I'll play the wait and see now, actually had time since i pre ordered to think Id prefer to wait and see how this phone turns out anyway from users at xda etc.  If it was like the first galaxy its going to take a while for samsung or devs to get it working as it should....

Looks a great phone, only thing its missing.. colour trackball.. and.... xenon flash..

A little too big perhaps but non pentile might make up for it.. looking forward to the "galaxy s3" which hopefully will bring higher res at 4 inches..

but who can wait that long? :)

What advantage do you expect from a higher res? Just curious as the "retina" display on the iP4 appears no better than the SGS's SAMOLED in sharpness to my eyes, and I can't see individual pixels on either without a magnifying glass.

Cheers,

I can definitely see the difference with _text_ on the iphone and galaxy s.  iphone seems much clearer to me in that area, my wife has the iphone 4 so ive seen plenty of it.
Id always go for higher resolution within reason, not all eyes are created equal and the older you get the worse your eyes get,. but yeah with a non pentile screen and slightly higher resolution it will be very crisp.
But anyway lack of pentile is a huge step forward.
