Must have is Plex for Android install media server on home pc, then download app from market (cost is about $6) then you can stream from PC to A500 so you don't need to store the files on your A500 if your just watching something around home over wifi :)

There is ways to get exchange working but does mean rooting and taking the apk's from the ASUS transformer.

3G (cell) is still active in the A500 and drains the battery like anything (20% over a fill charge) what this means is that even if there is no 3G/Cell chip in the A500 Acer has not removed the service from honeycomb which is a real c**k up as it does drain the battery.

Dingbatt:
julius: Oh the 10 is the number of simultaneous touches it registered.

Gotta agree about the usb; I left the charger at home one day and was oing a demo and had to leave it off so I had the juice.  Not charging through the ubs is crazy.  Also the Exchange functionality; weird that it doesn't exist in HoneyComb but does in Gingerbread and previous.

Sorry to harp on the same point, but does it accurately track multiple touches particularly if you rotate the touches? Some resistive screens become confused when the tracking crosses over.  That's where the multi-touch test app I quoted comes in.

Not enough juice from a standard usb port to charge an iPad either.

Update:
Answered my own questions, thanks to the great staff at Playtech (Mairangi Bay).  The screen tracks multitouch finger patterns relatively well.  Any lag evident was probably more due to it being a phone app on a tablet.  Staff member was very helpful, the tablet was connected to the internet, and they were only too happy to allow the download of some free apps from the Market.  That and the fact they have the cheapest A500s in Auckland means I will probably be heading back there after the next payday.

Boomtown74: Good idea...

maybe better to get 32Gb version and then add another 32GB and you can have 64GB as oppossed to 48GB more is better

The 32GB isn't very economical for the extra 16GB TBH. It's an extra $140 16GB of Flash memory. Not as bad as the iPad pricing model but still a bit of a pricing gyp.

I would rather pay about $850 all up for a total of 48GB [16GB + 32GB SD] than pay circa $1020 for the same thing with a total of 64GB [32GB + 32GB SD] based on $919 for A500 32GB + $100 for the SD card

semigeek: Its not too bad, only tried it with mp3 and images so far. There is a bit of a delay for music starting and there were a couple of pauses during the songs. This could be due to my wireless network though, considering the router has two walls between the PS3 and where I was using the A500.

Any chance you could try an MP4 or Xvid, I would assume that if MP3's a re delayed, these would be also.

I would also like to know how easily and how quickly the A500 can access say a NFS/NAS server or other shared drives on the network.  I assume your tests have just been accessing the A500 from the PS3.
Do yo have the means to test the above in any way?

DLS

Playing an MP4 over the media server resulted in a lot of stopping and starting. So much so that I gave up trying to watch the file

Which media player did you use? I've tried to play avi file (720p) on my A500 with in-built player and had similar lagging issues.

However, as soon as I change to "rock player", it works great! I believe this must due to some codec issues. You can download Rock player lite for free on Android market.

I was playing it on the TV via the Acer Media Server. Playing it on the A500 itself was fine.

That's a shame.
Where is the breakdown?
Is your Wireless router G or N?  Is the PS3 G?  [I have one but I don't know]
Are you still going through 2 walls?

DLS

Wireless router is N, Don't know about PS3.. Guessing its G.  And had the A500 sitting within metres of the router instead of through 2 walls

My bet is its the PS3, its always a bit shonky streaming video with wireless, PS3 only does g. Mine is sitting 2 feet from the router and still has problems so i just have it plugged in and then it works fine.

You have a couple of options, root and install the APK's from transformer (very easy) or there are programs on the market that will give you exchange,

I did the root and new apk's

Cheap stand. I'm guessing the A500 doesn't tip over at all?

Anyone found a decent case for this? Its super-slippery with that faux-brushed al backing. Dont need a stand/keyboard dock thinh, just a sturdy case to carry it in.
Thanks.

Do you want a full case or one where you can still see the screen when moving about? I bought a Golla Genmob case from Harvey Norman for $39 which fits theA500 perfectly
