Hi Guys

I have an ideos x5 and love it but want to get the most of it and get ready for any custom roms that will come out in the near future ie CM7
Therefore I really want to root it :P

The main reason I want to root it is because I want to overclock it (I hear it runs awesome at 1 ghz) and I also want to get rid of some of the stock applications which I dont use.

I am new to this and am seriously in need of some help

I have downloaded z4 root and temporarily rooted it but could not seem to uninstall any of the stock standard programs - it still says cannot uninstall
I also cant seem to find an overclocking kernel to use

If anyone can help me that would be much obliged

Cheers

Me too - had no idea people were starting to do custom ROMs for the X5.  Would be keen to see some walkthroughs/tutorials if available (first Android phone).

Hey
Im glad Im not the only one
I have got Z4 root to root the phone - only tried to temporarily root it

Now I have rom manager to install the kernel
However, rom manager is asking for my phone type and it does not have the ideos x5 on the list though it does have the U8150.

Im just trying to find a good way to backup my phone so if I bugger it up I can restore back to where I was

I have all this but would still love a walkthrough to double check

I'm a newbie to this also but have successfully rooted and clocked my x5.

I permanently rooted it using z4root

Go into settings/about phone to get your build number, find relative boot image from xda forum links, follow instructions replace boot.img file

Download setcpu app, crank it up to 1056mhz and enjoy! (you can also set up profiles to slow it down too improving battery time)

Some nutters have cranked the x5 up to 1.5ghz by fiddling around a bit!

It seems like the x5 is now starting to get a bit of a following now so heres hoping we see some good development

Wow. 1.5ghz is a bit much I reckon lol
Where did you find instructions to replace boot.img file? I cant find any decent ones
Also what did you use to backup your phone in case something went wrong?

You are only replacing one file and yes you should keep a copy just in case, at 1ghz the phone comes alive with no obvious issues, @ 1.5ghz you would have to wonder though!

My battery is lasting better now than before, literally I am only experiencing benefits from running it @ 1ghz, for me it is a no brainer

I used to get around 1350 in Quadrant, now getting around 1650 at 1056mhz. What are others results?

The old bootimg I replaced was around 9mb and the new one was only 5mb or so. Is that normal? Phone working fine.

Hi Guys

So I had a go last night and got myself all confused
I need to use B133SP16
I found this download from xda developeers
http://dl.dbank.com/c0fy14ktwm
However it seems to be in Japanese, just want to make sure this is the right one

Then I got lost as to what to do with the boot.img
I seriously need an awesome set of instructions
That would be amazing

That mimics my findings also, not sure why boot img is so small comparitively but nothing adverse to report

I found the below on the xda forums and I have some questions or issues rather:

Rom based on Official B160.

Features

  • Kernel from genolokar (available here), see note 1 below for overclocking info.

  • Rooted and latest SuperUser

  • Native froyo wifi tethering

  • WyContacts 1.2 and XDA Dialer 30.1 (turn to silence, blacklist, many other features)

  • CM 6.1 Email app and wallpapers

  • Launcher Pro 0.8.5

  • Some build.prop tweaks

  • Same enhancements that are claimed for B160 (better call quality, better wireless, better camera)

  • Installation will not format /data or remove apps from /cust. For some roms (unicom in particular) this will cause problems due to some incompatibilities, and will require a factory reset to function correctly.

BIG THANKS to genokolar for creating the new kernel

Requirements

  • Clockworkmod recovery (available here)

  • Should be compatible with all rom and cust versions, though as stated some will require a factory reset. Please post your findings.

Available here: http://www.multiupload.com/XYAORQ9FLJ
For those having camera issues try this: http://www.multiupload.com/T0VX44J523

Installation

  1. Copy update.zip to your sdcard

  2. Boot to clockworkmod recovery

  3. (Optional) Perform a full backup [see note 2]

  4. Apply update from sdcard

  5. After update is compete wipe dalvik cache (in the advanced menu)

  6. Reboot to system. First boot will be slow as it rebuilds the dalvik cache so be patient, successive boots will be back to normal.

  7. (Optional) If everything is fine delete the backup from step 3 and if you like do another backup

Notes

  1. By default the kernel is set to the default cpu governor and clock speed. If you would like to overclock I suggest using setcpu (available here)

  2. Be aware that after applying this you won't be able to restore the full backup unless you either revert to the original rom, or change the boot image. The purpose of the backup is instead to have a backup of /data just in case something goes wrong.

I cant seem to get clockworkmod recovery to work on the ideos because there is no option to choose that phone. So im stuck on 2 lol
I would love some help and Im sorry for being such a nuisance but this first timer needs some geekzone love
