Damager:  not sure whether being a 9100T makes a difference. The stock modem was KH1.

It can.

The i9100T has a less powerful radio in it for some reason, not all modem code takes account of that I guess...

joker97: i think my phone is unable to use wifi properly. i have nailed down why my battery now drains at up to 10% per hour!!! wifi!!!

i have to manually turn off wifi when turning screen off otherwise in a few hours the batt is drained. (note: calibrated)

there is no option to set turn off wifi on sleep. this kernel does not allow reporting sleep state - so i have no idea if the phone even sleeps. but probably does, as if i turn off wifi and data (ie 3g) after leaving overnight still 100%.

can it be programs? well i have frozen everything and rebooted so it's most likely wifi ... (or the android OS itself - remember i didnt' clean install, but chose no wipe)

it could be "wifi at work". but why? very strong signal although it has security password - maybe that prevents it sleeping? (forgot to mention overnight with wifi + 3g drains 7-8%)

tried cognition 1.5 and 1.42 ... both are the same in terms of battery use. feels like 1.5 gives me a better modem.

this may or may not help someone ....

Which kernel are you using, and what's your WiFi sleep policy setting?

I'm currently running Hardcore's SpeedMod T40 w/ Cognition 1.5.1 (radio XXKH3), WiFi isn't set to sleep when the screen is turned off, and I'm getting excellent battery life. After a day at work (WiFi connected), an evening at home (WiFi again), and using LightningBug to play sleep music through the speaker for 90 minutes, I still have around 65% battery the next day.

The other thing to check (if you haven't already) is the expanded view of the built-in battery graph (Settings > About phone > Battery usage > tap on the graph at the top). This will show you how often the phone was awake when the screen was off. If you're seeing this, tools like BetterBatteryStats will help track down which process is keeping the phone awake.

wow i still learn new things about my phone! anyway, i've restored back to stock, and haven't reflashed cognition. the only difference i notice is the modem KH3 being superior.

how do i obtain the kh3 modem and flash that on its own? will it work with a 2.3.3 rom/kernel?

Interesting as i always had full bars with stock KH1 and KH3, but KG6 gives me just 3 or 4 at anytime.. Very strange

I am currently running VillianROM 3.0 (2.3.5) with siyah kernel 1.7.7 and the KG5 modem. I used SetCPU to set the lowest speed to 100mhz and set it to the smartassv2 scheduler for the cpu, but have not played with the mV settings.

The combination seems to work well, I am getting some of the best battery life I have EVER had. Like 8% to 11% used all day... 12 hours, voice calls, texting, calendar, even a bit of data. This is in an area with poor signal (unable to sustain 3G).

Stability has been fine, no lockups all that time. Phone runs cold, response is good - indistinguishable from stock but better even. Video if smooth as ever, loads instantly though. UI is smooth and fast (adw ex launcher; go launcher ex seems to be getting a bit bloated/slow).

In short this is about the best ROM I have had for a long while, perhaps ever on the sgsII. Was installed as a full wipe and delvik wipe (I have taken to doing this always anyhow, because it just avoids so much crap. Titanium backup takes most of the pain out)...

This time I went for a manual install of everything and tried some new apps -
"glass widgets - nicolai buch-anderson",
"simple calendar widget - alex gavrishev".
Both are very nice clean widgets;
"TouchPal" - I am a swype fan, but it may just be beaten by the new touchpal. Swype hasn't been touched for the last week.

Not strange at all lol.
The KH3 modem must have been programmed with the i9100T in mind.

Some of these other modems may never have been intended for the i9100T, and would normally never get it (I presume). But when they have people manually hacking and flashing modems outside of the official update system....

Well, we take our chances. Usually we win; sometimes we don't.

And the best you can hope for is to Download Mode before you sleep...

Flashed KH3 and back to my usual full bars signal strength :-) I guess the hardware differences in the T model might mean different sensitivity to certain modems, hence experiencing the worse results with KG6. The price we pay as chronic "flashers".. Sounds very complimentary doesnt it hehe!

If anyone missed it the N64oid 2.4 update is great, few ROM fixes (like Starfox 64), but also bluetooth multiplayer support! Awesome with MHL!

does anyone has a flashable copy of any custom 2.3.3 status bar with a data on/off toggle?

(i have a widget to shortcut me to the data toggle settings menu but the widget itself takes up battery. i need to toggle to save battery as my 9100"T" is no good with wifi/3g on in terms of battery usage.)

Hello,
In the process of upgrading my SGS2, to a newer rom and having forgotten how i did it last time, i managed to completely factory reset my phone, that i consider good news. it could have been alot worse.

I will take the opportunity to redo root, get rid of that yellow triangle, and install a much newer custom rom that's stable, and possibly better bluetooth support.

Just checked and still have root on my phone so , does that mean i just need a custom rom?

I will read the howto to check Smile

I also have CWM installed.

Check Brendans link in his signature its very good (its a couple of posts above yours)

A lot olf good roms out there, 2.3.5 has just been released so do a bit of research on XDA to see what problems if any, there are.

Rom's are subjective and most will justify their choice to the death. There are Rom kitchens around where you can pick and choose what to install I have, as yet , to try one.

I use darkyrom as they have an app you can get from market to update and being lazy it suits me.

There are a couple of methods to get rid of yellow triangle but easiest is to get hold of a jig as that also resets binary counter. A few of us have them and all to happy to loan them out and only takes a few seconds to do, very much idiot proof.

Thanks jeffnz,

The "idiot proof" bit would be tried and tested with me, i must learn to leave well enough alone!

I have been going thou the guide, its very good, and with a little bit of luck am downloading lightening 6.1 rom to try.

thank you.
