Disrespective: So i'm all updated and rooted as per the xda guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278

I did not lose any configuration...*
Well that's now a lie as my alarms were changed. I had a multiple day alarm set up and after update it changed to a single day alarm... sigh, missed my morning lecture :(

O/T My lady is not going to see your post. It's not a good enough excuse ;)

Back to LCD Density. I set mine to 200 and have had great success.  Others seem to say 202 or 190, I guess it's a lot of personal preference. Regardless some stock apps like the dialer will look screwed up and you really need to add a row/column to your desktop with your launcher of choice to make the most of it.

Change from 200 to 202 and you may find that a lot of apps scale better.

Other than the dialer i've not experienced any bad app scaling. There must be some out there with troubles though.

Okay so now that I have tried to update via Odin to
Firmware info
PDA:XWKE2
PHONE: XXKDJ
CSC:XEUKD1 (XEU)
Build date: 06/05/2011

Kies no longer recognises the firmware number on the phone (I assume thats right?).

But when i dial in *#1234# it shows that I still have the old version
PDA: I9100XWKDD
Phone: I9000XXKDH
CSC: I9100OXXKDC

but Odin claims the update was a success. I have tried to flash it a few times all with the same result.
Kies says a firmware recovery needs to be done, and to enter Recovery mode, by pushing power button.

Can't seem to get into recovery mode, only Odin mode or actually boot the phone. I tried doing the recovery in Odin mode (just in case) but Kies didn't like it.

Help D:

Which guide did you follow? Did you install both the ROM and then the Kernel?

I'm not trying to root the phone, simply update it due to battery issues and what not. So I just loaded the .tar file as PDA on Odin and hit go.

Odin says:

<ID:0/006> SetupConnection..

You definitely downloaded the following? :

Firmware info
PDA:XWKE2
PHONE: XXKDJ
CSC:XEUKD1 (XEU)
Build date: 06/05/2011

This is assuming you don't have an Orange version, there is a big bold note saying:
Notice: There seems to be an issue with users on Orange's network and this firmware, XWKE2, version causing Android process to Force Close on boot. Please use XWKE1 until there is a fix/update

This is a very strange thing to say but I'm sort of glad I'm not the only person experiencing nightmare scenarios with Kies. I got stuck in firmware update mode on the phone.
I tried countless times, including several factory resets, and no joy.

I am reluctant to go the Odin way.
Is any of you guys, who managed to successfully get the firmware loaded through Kies, willing to help out?

Thanks,
Damian

Yup I downloaded that version. Have checked the .tar file name against the website and it matches.

From memory odin is a samsung in-house development tool while kies is their consumer tool. Not sure what happened with your flash but I'd try downloading the files again and re flash it.

I'll try it. In the mean time, can anyone tell me how to get into recovery mode?
