Brendan:
droan: quick question about restoring after rooting. I have used the Ti to restore but the homescreen's widget link failed and had to reload, all my angry bird level gone?! Ringing tone had to redefine, is that normal?

p.s flashed to Fluxmod last night and flash to latest siyah 2.3 just now. everything looks good!

Yes, normal.

Yeps normal

Anyone used the Vellamo Web Browsing benchmark? First time seen a reference to this benchmark. It incorporates the sunspider benchmark and adds more.

I get 951 (not overclocked)

got a question re MHL cable:

1) is it plug and play? can i play my flac music onto any HDMI amp by just plugging the SGS2 in and playing music like i'm using earphones?

2) whatabout videos? just like playing videos on the phone?

3) does the cable charge the phone?

4) is it fiddly? ie if i hold the phone and do things will the connection stuff up?

I scored 956 for Vellamo. It's one of the tools I'm using to benchmark this device (among others) in comparison to the Galaxy Nexus

If you can find NZTechfreak's video review on the MHL.. oh wait let me get it.. must i do everything for you?? :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bmtulP9Vlg

That should answer most of your questions. Remember, NZTechfreak usually has the top end handsets first out of the blocks.. His reviews are VERY comprehensive, i usually make my buying decisions based on his reviews and also he checks out everything in decent detail :-)

sorry i'm in Oz and have just bought one from china for 10 bucks. we'll see if it arrives and whether it will last, but i'm just wondering if it will turn the sgs2 into an HTPC

I can confirm that it works with BlueTooth Keyboard and Mouse. My plan is to use it as a wireless thinclient. If it works, the Galaxy device that does not have a phone would be a cheaper wireless thinclient than the Wyse offering.

I'm most curious as to what resolution it uses when on MHL(HDMI), the Nokia N8 has "big screen" when on HDMI which raises the resolution above that of the phone, but it only supports media playback, ideally the Sii would go up to monitor native.

Just downloaded every new rom (2.3.6 KK2/5, english only, 10 in total) and the updates of the top 5 kernels since the 2nd using the telstra free weekend.

I intend to try them all during the next week or two and wish to benchmark combinations for smoothness, performance and battery.

Does anyone have suggestions on thorough benchmarking programs, as discussed in this thread before Antutu can be duped to produce inaccurate results.

I realise performance and battery are subjective to the user and rom type(stock, slim, aosp) but I think its safe to assume comparing the results of 10 out of the box installs should allow me to narrow it down to the 3.

I'm on Checkrom RevoHD rom (KK5 2.3.6) with Siyah Dark Knight 2.3 kernel running 100mhz~1.2gHz on smartassV2 governor, usual Samsung bloatware (I like social hub and a couple of the widgets :P)

Just run some Benchmarks, Results.....

Vellamo: 1043, 977, 980

Quadrant: 4177, 4221,4177

Battery life: screen off <2%/Hr, screen on 4~6%/Hr

This rom is the smoothest, most fluid rom i have ever experienced on my SGS2, ithoroughly recommend trying it out, it will be the last rom you use until ICS i am sure. The ICS theme included in the package is pleasant on the eye too
