Foo: I think this has been mentioned here before but since upgrading to ICS I send double SMS messages when using Handcent. It only shows as a single message from my end but to the recipient they get the message twice.

When I use the stock SMS program (ugh, ugly) they only receive the message once.

Anyone else got this issue?

Upgrade to LP7 or get Handcent 4.0

Hey, thanks a lot for that tip. I'll install that beta of Handcent. Cheers :-)

Coincidentally, in less than a working day the battery drain on my SGSII has been remarkable I've not used the phone for anything at all (trialling WP7 and too busy at work) and yet the battery life has trickled away during the day.

The only change I've made is flashing the DCKL1 modem.  I didn't note what I was running before but I'm going to flash one of the later ICS (still on a pre "official" ICS) and see what I get dished up.

Nope. That's an i9100 modem, not i9100T, damned if I know the difference but there is one.

The i9100 and the i9100T are exactly the same, the only difference being that the radio firmware of the T model disables unused bands, which is why they also have a lower SAR rating.

So if I buy a Telecom SGS2 and flash the Voda firmware I am away laughing?

Edit; This deal http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=99605

Yep. :)

Btw folks, Resurrection Remix v1.0 is out! Based on XXLPQ but uses a tweaked LPJ kernel, so no duplicate SMS issue. Awesome battery life, awesome performance and haven't noticed any bugs so far!

Might try a t modem then. Some are using the jk1 modem for the telstra model. is there a more recent modem out??

Not sure about telstra. I'm using DCKL1 at present, and it works really well - better than DOKG2!

download link please?

I posted a working link on the previous page.

This site is a pain to use on a phone, either in the browser or mobile site. I think I just requested someone to be a friend...

Hi,

Tonight I upgrade my ROM to the STOCK Samsung ICS from galaxys2root.com (XXLPQ), and after the upgrade noticed that my phone was getting quite hot around the camera and flash area.

As I need the phone for work tomorrow and don't need random errors cropping up, I have rolled back to my stock XXKG3, and lo and behold the temperature has receded :)

Will bring home a temp gun on the weekend to see just home much the tempm rises

Does anyone know what chips are around the camera area? Was thinking it is the Wireless and/or Cellaur Chips.

Has anyone else noticed this with the Stock ROM?

Cheers
Clint

Upgraded to XXLPQ today and noticed this issue. I've since flashed my previous radio - DCLK1 - and it seems to be working great. You could try some other radio as well, or just use the one from your KG3 ROM.

Also, looked up the iFixit for SGSII and damn, looks pretty impressive - every component is located near the camera, lol.

I am trying to setup my Google log in on a Telecom S2 via WIFI, currently with a Vodafone SIM in it. I cant connect to Google servers to set it up, tried a couple of accounts?? Have I forgotten something?

EDIT: Looks like it likes the date and time to be accurate, once I sorted that away I went. Trap for hasty players.

well if you can't login, then you can't grab ping to test what you can connect to. Does your wifi router hand out dns information with the dhcp? If you go into settings wifi and networks, and see if you can see if you are getting an ip address? I am guessing perhaps you are not getting auth properly or dns isn't being given properly.

You could TRY:

1. Go to "Settings" on your Evo
2. Click on "Wireless & networks"
3. Click Wifi Settings
4. Press the "Menu" key near the bottom of the phone (right next to your Home button)
5. Click "Advanced"
6. Click "Use static IP"
7. Everything will have to be filled in manually the first time but should hold the settings every time you connect.

You will need to know your default gateway, dns and subnet mask (almost certainly 255.255.255.0)

So if you go to a pc, go to command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) and type

ipconfig /all

you should see ip, (192.168.1.88 for example) network mask (see above) and default gateway (likely 192.168.1.1 or 1.254). The IP you need to assign needs to be unique in the last set of numbers.. so if you are 192.168.1.x then your phone needs an ip like 199 which isn't used elsewhere.

DNS should be 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to get you started.

These are just temporary settings so you can get some diag tools onboard from the play store, like ping/dns or similar.

PM if you need more help or ask questions here whichever suits you better.

None of this will help if you aren't properly connected to the WiFi, and sorry I have assumed your level of skill don't be offended if it's more advanced than I have assumed.

Yes, this is because it uses SSL and for making sure the certificates are valid, the date/time of your device has to be reasonably accurate. This applies for any device trying to browse a secure website. :)
