Kelem: Now i need t find a good Rom, WanamLite Stock XXLPQ is very stable but boring!

No issues here with WanamLite 10 - lost 6% battery overnight with wifi/3g enabled, and battery life yesterday was down to around 40% after 2 hours+ of screen time - that's a pretty good start!

No, no issues at all, battery life looked to suck to start with but has got alot better lately, i find it somewhat boring.

Geez data is expensive here.

I have a telecom SGS2. I want to root it. But Every after googling and going to xda and all sorts of sites I really have no idea which ROM to use.

I could take a guess but I'm just a bit nervous so I wanna just double check with someone that knows.

I have used the search function here too and nothing concrete comes up, I also ready probably 60+ pages of the owners thread using search and read most of the last pages. Mostly found lots of pages spaming info on ISC 4.0 which I won't attempt to have a go at yet, I just want my phone rooted at this stage.

Here are the details of my phone.

GT-I9100T
Android 2.3.3
Baseband i9100dokg2
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-i9100tdokh1-cl443486 Root@dell141 #2
Build Gingerbread.dokh1

I see some people commented they rooted their Telecom Phone but they didnt really say what rom to use.

Also have an i9000T from Telecom.

I wouldn't say we're "spamming ICS" though. It's now official and hence most GZ users are now trying ICS.. It was the same when users had a Galaxy S and GB roms came out..

There are some excellent GB roms out there on XDA including one by a GZ user name CTDroid called "FluxMod" I highly recommend this one as it was my daily driver before ICS, otherwise it's really up tp you. Most can be loaded via CWM, otherwise it will be Odin. The developers will advise how to install their roms.

Most GZ users are on these custom ICS roms:

Batista, Darky, Resurrection Remix, Omega

These developers also have excellent GB roms, however with ICS out now, the development has likely stopped on their GB roms, hence it's probably better to go straight to ICS. It's totally up to you. All roms GB or ICS, some are based on stock, some are themed, some are based on Cyanogen Mod, but best to stay with the majority of users are eg the main developers named above.

What's important to you?
Do you go for themes?
Is battery life a major?
Would you want a rom with the Samsung bloat or removed?
Are you comfy using a custom rom for a work phone?

That's the best thing about custom roms, is that you have choice! Once the phone is rooted, it's up to you. Many GZ users will give feedback about their experiences of certain roms to help you consider. I'm no different, i check here for user's experiences. Before i moved to ICS, i checked the feedback here rather than XDA because i know it is from the "kiwi" experience. Most of my considerations are based on feedback in this thread and then check XDA for the overall feedback experience.

Not all custom roms are perfect, that's the main thing to consider. Will a force close really bug you? You sort of need to have some tolerance of a custom rom and consider that now and then something won't work quite right.

rooting does not involve flashing a rom. rooting means installing an app to gain access into the bowels of your phone. if you only want to root you need some basic computer skills and you need to read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334

find the firmware that matches yours ie find DOKH1 and follow the instructions exactly to the points

it will install the rooting access and SHOULD leave everything as is ... (i'm not responsible for bricking your phone OK)

if you want to install a rom you can use CWM (clockworkmod) that you gain from the root ... a rom is the entire operating system that runs your phone and everything should be wiped.

once you install a rom you may choose to install different compatible kernels - kernel is the main program that runs the phone

Thanks heaps for the replies. Very helpful. When I said Spamming ISC I meant thats all I could find using the search function.

I just used the wrong term. I ment the Kernel. Or whatever. Problem is I can't find one to match. Which is why I posted the details.

And I have red that intire link posted as well as 10 other guides exactly like it. I always get stuck on the part where it tells me to "just pick one that is close to your one, it will probably work".

It's the probably part I don't like. Like I said I could take a guess but if either of you could point me in the right direction for which kernal should do the trick that would be good.

Awesome thanks much I already have it cause it was the one I thought I should use but I wasn't sure. As in some other posts on XDA forums it had some really really close ones from austrailia, I just dont really understand the difference, if there even is any.

If this goes smooth I will try ICS thanks heaps.

Edit: All done and working used the above file thanks much. Might give ICS a go in a few days :D.

if you want superb battery life AND super smooth super fast try the best of the gingerbread ones for example fluxmod rom ...

if you want the latest (still super fast) but not as good battery life and not very stable (need to remove battery and restart if you try to tweak too much as i do) give the current ICS roms a go. but you must understand the GB roms have been tweaked to perfection to give the lightest (least bloatware) to get best battery and hacked to the smoothest fastest, while the current ICS roms may not be "light" (contains all samsung bloatware) ... or at least not as light as possible ... and they're all 4.0.3

i heard 4.0.4 coming out soon ... and then every so often there is a better ICS - hence i went with omega because it's a no wipe ROm so if the dev will keep it updated with the latest you can flash no wipe. but you should wipe when going from GB to ICS for sure ... jsut in case you get crashes you can't blame the no wiping

To add to this I'd recommend learning how to use Titanium Backup. I freeze any apps I don't want on my phone, so even the most bloated rom still goes on a good diet on my phone. It's not the cheapest app but the paid version is well worth the expense. Especially if you're going to play with custom roms and tweaks.

Eviol Monkey, if you do a nandroid backup (accessible from recovery) then you can try ICS and if you really don't like it then you can restore back to where you were without losing anything.Wouldn't worry too much about 'close to yours'as if they are for sgs2 you're fine.

as saIid before, it will depend on what you want, I used darkyrom for a long time as its simple and clean as samsung bloatware is removed and they have an app so you can flash themes etc which makes life easy.

I changed to Omega just for a change as I'm enjoying the blue/black theme and all the bells and whistles.

Have a go you'll enjoy the ability to change just ensure you read and follow the guides in the dev's threads. Mostly I wipe everything when going from one rom to another as it takes out any lingering remnants of other rom's.

I found it easy to get carried away with Titanium Backup and went a bit to far at times, but its easy to undo and correct, probably one of the most used apps i would own and worth the small price to get the pro imho.

Having a look at the Omega ROM atm looks good

Having a look at the Omega ROM atm looks good

The apk list that's floating around is a pretty awesome resource for this too. Helps to know what all those apk's are and whether it's safe to ditch them.

Omega V7 (LP3) is about to be released in the next day or so if anyone is interested in trying it shortly.
