Just brought one of these, getting it sent to my sister places in Scotland, will be picking it up on the 20th, will be testing it across the UK for about a month before I come back

Hmm.

I shouldn't have trusted the site and downloaded provided firmware.
All seems well with the phone, but I now have an app called com.orange.authentication.simcard.permission, which I never noticed before.
My phone is not branded and I did get the supposedly correct firmware from samfirmware.com

Well im committed to the Galaxy s2 now as my Iphone 4 was sold today and picked up tonight.
Ive had it 5 days and am really wrapped with it.
I used the Navigation function on it today and was really impressed with its fast response, recalculation and accuracy in use.
I bought one of the universal remotes from Digital Mobile for $30 and it is very sturdy and does the job well.
I had a USB car plug and was able to connect the supplied USB cable and my phone is on the charge.

Hard to believe after 3 years of Iphone use have I made the switch and been converted to android

Yeah, I was the same. Loved the iPhone but always thought there must be something better over the fence.

Shifted to the LG Optimus One P500 and could see the obvious freedom of Android but the P500 was just too small and slow. The SGSII is just perfect. BTW, if you'd like a sexier voice with Google Navigation and elsewhere with Text to Speech, the SVOX app is great. Get the free SVOX Classic app and choose the voice from many. They do cost a couple of dollars each. I chose "UK Victoria" who doesn't sound anywhere near as robotic as the standard Gingerbread lady.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 280 performed here so far.

I think you have flashed the wrong firmware have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and try this one Generic XEU: http://www.multiupload.com/IBRBHDUDXI. By the way did you note which firmware you had to start with?

I have been hanging out for the Galaxy S 2... I'm trying to avoid a parallel imported version just for peace of mind around the warranty.

Rumour has it the the Vodafone price will be around $1200. The Galaxy S is on special at the moment for $699 from Harvey Norman.

Is it really worth the $500 difference between the S and S2?

Anybody here upgraded from the S to S2?

Any thoughts?

I think the SGSII is worth it, having upgraded from the original Galaxy S myself. Camera is much better, GPS is much better, video playback is better (and have the option of HMI output too), browser is light years better with its amazing flash performance, screen is better with its non-pentile matrix, general everyday use is better due to the RAM and CPU situation... Everything is better except the sound quality for music, the original wins out there (it has the best sound quality available in the cellphone world).

....Spiderman HD is available for the SGSII without using CF3D, just go to gameloft.com and it will direct you to the mobile store.

EDIT: Wow! Just saw news that Samsung have supplied an SGSII to a cyanogenmod developer to work with!

I also upgraded from a Galaxy S. Galaxy S is a good unit but my advice is spend the extra and get the S2. Its better in nearly every way.

Also another who upgraded from the SGS to SGS2.  It's significantly better.  And it's money well spent.  And I don't even use it for games at all.  I'm very happy to have spent the money upgrading.  It's speed was enough to make me feel very satisfied with my purchase.

I've been meaning to ask Neets - what setup did you put on the SGS when you gave it to hubby?  Did it require some bloke-ification? Tongue out

Pretty happy with my purchase so far, the only gripe I have is 1080p video recording, it seems to have a lot of trouble focusing properly, I've read elsewhere people experiencing this, is there a chance this can be fixed in a future update?

@nofam and @R2D2
There was nothing girlie about my setup. It's still on CM7. Though I'll change it to stock gingerbread when we get home from holiday.
Surprised? I hope not!
