mrgsm021: Hello guys,

Looking to order SGS2 from www.unlocked-mobiles.com who are based in the UK.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these guys before?

Sorry if this question had been asked already elsewhere.

They are about 4 pounds cheaper than Clove and shipping is cheaper via royal mail to NZ (20 pounds).

Yes guilty as charged.  They were great to deal with.  There was a delay in receiving their stock and they kept me informed all the way.  And due to the delay I asked to change the delivery method and it all went without a hitch with every email I sent answered promptly.  The phone arrived when expected and it was great to be able to track it.

I was charged customs duties and GST when it arrived but I knew that was likely and fair enough.

Today was the first time my battery drain went crazy.  I've had outstanding battery life.  But today I had two text messages and a "huddle" and some other Google+ activity on the phone before leaving for work.  But other than that, my phone was pretty much ignored.

By the time I left work I was down to 30% where as most days it's about 90% with more use than today.

Display was 70%.  I can't figure out what caused the excessive battery drain but will figure it out.  I upgraded Skype this morning and added it to my synch which may have caused it.  Even though I wasn't connected to Wifi or mobile data (other than a couple of minutes during the day) during the day.

The other odd thing was my hubby called, I saw the call pop up but there was no ringing notification. I picked up the call and there was nothing.  I tried to call him and he said he never received any calls despite it showing the time ticking away.

After we met up I tried a couple of times without luck.  Rebooted my phone and it came right.  Just another thing to keep me on my toes when everything in my world had been going along swimmingly.

mckenndk: The only problem I am having is that the phone won't connect to our?exchange?active sync email, when the Iphones do.

It works for Iphones and if I download another email app from the market it will work no problem which is a pain.

Are you connecting to a genuine Exchange server, or to a sever that's supposed to be ActiveSync compatible? I have mine syncing with work's server (Exchange 2007, I think) and it's working just fine. I'm able to sync both on the work wifi network and at home.

Does anyone know if the various ROM's can be run up outside the phone to get a feel for what they are, e.g. can they be run in th SDK or some virtual machine?

I've noticed that when I take phone calls using the provided headset they do not seem to connect. The headset seems to be working ok so far as I can hear fine stereo audio and the FM tuner works in stereo.

Yes it is an exchange 2010 server, we had exchange 2003 but after the upgrade all the android phones stopped working and the apples kept going for some weird reason.

The top brass all use apples so they don't mind and its not a big problem but there are alot of us that use androids and now can't get our mail on our phone.

We're running Exchange 2010 here and my SGS II works fine. Strange that an IPhone would work, I would have assumed active synch would either be working or not for everyone.

Have been patiently waiting for Skype video calling to come to Android and the new releases have finally added video calling.... for some phones only, unfortunately not for the SGS or SGSII yet.

However, some smart cookie's managed to modify the 2.0.0.24 apk to work fine with the SGS, SGSII and a number of other phones. Working beautifully for me with both cameras. A mate in Japan with fibre said my rear camera image looked stunning.

after reading many reviews I bought the Galaxy S2. I am thinking it is a big mistake and should have bought the HTC Sensation instead.  Overall I do like the S2 but the biggest problem I have over the Desire HD I have is the screen  Even at brightest it is too dark and way oversaturated. The Galaxy S was also oversaturated for my liking. Some reviews said with the Galaxy S2 you can reduce the saturation but I cannot find any way of doing so.  The closest I found is in settings/display/Background Effects. But trying the 3 different settings of Dynamic/Standard/Movie made no difference.  This is a NZ S2 with Vodafone firmware. In Samsaung Kies it has VNZ at the end of firmware identification.  Is there a setting I am missing or an app to download to reduce saturation. Thanks

What are you comparing it to though? Is it actually oversaturated or are you just used to the under saturation and haziness of lcd screens? I've just been through a similar thing after buying a Dell Ultrasharp IPS monitor - I thought it was defective after seeing the colours compared to my old viewsonic TN panel.

A question for the owners who brought from a retailer here in NZ EG Noel Leeming or Vodafone stores, Did you try and haggle the price down? Im going out today, thinking about walking into Noel Leeming Lyall Bay and seeing if I can haggle the price down because I am paying all cash.

I know its a high demand item, so its probably not likely, but worth a shot.

Thoughts please? :)

comparing to the HTC Desire HD screen.  Watching video on the Desire I can see more detail and peoples faces are more natural. On the Galaxy S2 watching the same video you only see part of the picture as it is too dark and peoples faces have a more orange type look which doesnt look natural at all

@MICHAEL - JB Hifi New Lynn still have them @ $1129 to of buy outright plus you get a $50 JB gift card, so I suppose that would be a good benchmark
