Oh btw thought I'll contribute something, I'm having full access to trademe website with no worries and using stock browser on stock phone ;) just bidded on something as well mwahaha take that u rooted users :P

Yeah, that did cross my mind - most custom firmwares have heavily modified hosts files to resolve popular ad sites to the loopback IP (127.0.0.1) - it may be that Trademe is using one of these blocked aggregating sites?

Yep totally agreed. I'm an ex htc sense person and still miss the UI but launcher pro is almost trying to fill the gap.

Might give rooting a go, I read over the instructions but there are a huge number of different versions to choose from - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 - so gettign a little confused.

Some have apps removed/added and different themes but to be honest they're all largely the same. Try running a popular one first to get used to it. If you pick cognition then there are a few other users here who could help if you have problems.

That sounds possible. My current rom has an ad-free host as well.

I'm so glad I didn't try the call centre, the response took two weeks... Anyway, here's Telecom's response:

Thank you for your email query and we apologise for the late response, as this needed to come from our network team. Please find their response below:

"No we currently do not have NCFD feature enabled. Because only the handset benefits from Fast Dormancy for battery life purposes. In fast dormancy the handset notifies the network to release the air interface so it’s put into IDLE state much quicker than going through to Cell-FACH and finally to Idle. This can cause much more signaling on the network between the RNC, NodeB and mobile device which (increase in signaling load) can lead to congestion.
We have a number of features on the network that can work with Fast Dormancy and not cause a large increase in signaling load, however there is no current ETA for deployment."

To disable Fast Dormancy on an SGS2 dial *#*#9900#*#*. Not sure if you need root for this.

It's been so long since I rooted mine I can't even remember... Can't you simply install the rom of choice through Odin (they typically include CWM anyway)?

Or are you wanting CWM before you apply a custom rom?

CyanogenMod 7 is now available for the SGS2.

It's an alpha/beta build, but it's mostly functional. It's very quick and it looks pretty promising for the future.

One of the better improvements is that the display doesn't have the horrible gradient banding anymore. (24/32 bit display instead of 16bit I think?)

You _can_ crossflash from Cognition but you may need to do a datawipe for the Contacts app to stop ACore from crashing. I recommend a Nandroid backup and a complete factory reset, then flash it from at least CWM 4.0.0.8. (CM7 includes CWM 4.0.1.0)

For now, I'd recommend Cognition 1.15. It's very quick, especially with the modified custom kernel it's now running.

It's been so long since I rooted mine I can't even remember... Can't you simply install the rom of choice through Odin (they typically include CWM anyway)?

Or are you wanting CWM before you apply a custom rom?

Either Odin-flash Litening ROM (about the only obvious Odin-flashable fw that comes to mind) or Odin-flash a Chainfire CWM-Root kernel which will auto-root the phone and leave it otherwise stock. (Then boot into recovery and flash Cognition :)

You need root to install CWM.

But the easiest way to do it all is to use ODIN to flash a chainfire CF-root kernel; instructions are on XDA. As if you need more help.

Install kies (but don't use it, it's crap. You just want the drivers).

download ODIN 1.85 and extract it to the root of your c drive.

Download the CF-Root kernel for your phone (look in settings/about phone, then down the bottom. You might have KE8, or KF2, orr anything. Match that with the cf-root kernel so you get the right one).

Put the phone into download mode (power off, then hold in the volume down and home buttons; then hold in power for 5 seconds. It'll ask you if you want to continue, and you say yes).

Load up odin. THEN (only then) plug in the phone. Wait until windows loads the drivers and recognises it. A yellow label should appear top left of odin when the phone is ready.

Put the CF-Root tar file you downloaded into the PDA slot. repartition should NOT be ticked. a PIT file should NOT be loaded.

Check all the THREE times.

Click start. It should only take a minute. The phone should re-boot.

There will be a yellow triangle on the boot screen; that's expected.

Your phone is now rooted AND has CWM installed.

Get into CWM by powering off the phone, and hold in volume UP and home key; then hold in power for 5 seconds odd. Move up and down the menu's with vol up/down, execute with power button or home key (depends on version of cwm). sometimes the back button is used to go back a menu.

Probably the first thing you want to do is a backup of your current system. Got to the backup menu. Self explanatory. That is a nandroid backup.

It's rock-solid for me. Whatever they've done with it has massively improved my battery life as well.

I've undervolted quite a bit, takes a bit of playing around to see what's stable, it's not really worth bothering given the powerdrain improvements. It runs fine even at 1600MHz, but I underclock down to 1Ghz as it's more than fast enough and I'd rather have the battery last longer.

I was going to post before, but got side-tracked; have been running on battery for 27 hours now, with full 3G sync, and moderate use - still have 69% battery.

I did experience a reboot last night, but I'm pretty certain it was down to my under-clocking; I'd just opened to task manager and suddenly Dolphin HD went mental with CPU and RAM usage, so I'd say the CPU wasn't getting enough voltage to ramp up.

I'm pretty certain the majority of people with reboots on this kernel are experimenting with voltages/speeds. Historically, kernel faults usually don't result in random reboots anyway; it's usually hanging, unwakable sleeps etc?
