klyster: I reset my tf101 before installing, fresh start and all that, so much quicker in scrolling and such, video seems heaps better, the only issue I seem to have now is the @ and the " have swapped around but this happened to me when I first got the tablet and updated to 3.2 so I guess it's something I've done...

All in all, so far, very happy.

Check your language settings - the keyboard map is determined by this (from memory I had this issue when I selected UK English rather than US english)

All in all, so far, very happy.

Check your keyboard setting. UK and US keyboards have @ and " in opposite locations so that'll be why they're wrong. If you're currently set to UK, change it to US and visa-versa.

hairy1 Glad you got it sorted. What is the advantage on a having root on the TF? I rooted my Ideos and can understand why I need to as I am running custom ROMs on the X5. The only time I needed to root the TF was to support peer to peer wifi but that was sorted early on by ASUS.

Backup is one (makes restoring apps (and data)) a breeze, I use Root Explorer, Ad block and others. I run these on the phone (SGSII) and like to have the same available when working/playing from the pad. What I really needed was a method of rooting that didn't come hand in hand with cwm.

Thanks for the links. I've seen the top one before but it seems too involved and out of my depth unfortunately. The 2nd link I had found details on another website this afternoon. The link includes a YouTube link to see the root and custom ROM being installed. But it's showing the use of CWM. How do you get root and not have it install CWM at the same time? And now of course the next question, how do you remove CWM - yes I've looked for that too but seem to have looked in the wrong places, or my brain does not function during the weekends. Both options are pretty straightforward and easy to do - the second one is probably a bit easier as it doesn't require you to make a bootable CD/USB stick. Both toolkits give you the option to install CWM or not - if you don't want it, you just don't install it.

You could try using the toolkit to restore the standard recovery - it's an option on tab 5. Not sure if that'd work though. The other option would be to use NVFlash (http://www.tabletroms.com/forums/transformer-rom-development/1071-asus-transformer-nvflash-stock-3-1-stock-3-2-recovery-roms-unbricking-tools.html) to return to stock, then use the toolkit to root (without installing CWM) and then proceeding through the OTA update(s). Note that you need to flash the appropriate SKU as it is tied to your serial number (flashing the wrong SKU will also prevent OTA updates).

Cool, that's the NVFlash I've been using all day so got that one down pat. I'll give the root option a go tomorrow. Even though I'm on ICS it's still showing I've got an update to install. Cheers for the suggestions.

I just installed a stock ICS rom that included root. worked no probs.

ICS arrived on standard TF101 been checking every day and suddenly its there. All sweet but some things look quite different

Thanks Kevin. I couldn't be bothered waiting until tomorrow. I decided to give it a bash tonight. I expected it would take at least an hour to NVFlash and then go through all the steps.

Dead simple. In fact quite an embarrassment that I spent so long today trying to get ICS while keeping root.

OTA Rootkeeper finally works for me - because I have root without CWM. I'm thrilled. I've gone through two updates to get ICS and they've been smooth going. Everything is really easy. I've dreaded OTA's in the past because of the drama of getting root again.

This method (NVFlash & 2nd link in Kevin's post) I could almost do with my eyes closed. In less than 20 minutes (including d/l time) I have ICS and root! Thanks for sharing.

Everytime I convince myself I dont 'need' a tablet the Asus drops in price ! $499 now from DSE and Im wondering if there is a reason to not get one now.

Ive tried to not get involved in the tablet debate to not tease myself but on looking between a transformer and a galaxy tab, the transformer appears to win solely based on HDMI out and a micro-sd slot. The galaxy is slight smaller, thinner and lighter but is that it ?

The Asus is now on ICS, so apart from the never ending upgrade cycle is there any reason to not get one anymore ?

Does anyone else get the little triangle with exclamation mark and Android bot when trying to do the update? I have a rooted unit and have removed root with vodoo but it makes no difference?

Hi Tony, do you still have CWM on the pad? That stops the OTA. It's not root that's the problem.

In the past 24 hours my TF on ICS has rebooted by itself and stalled halfway through loading, requiring a restart using the recovery (pwr + vol down) to resuscitate it. Later it would not wake and required another recovery restart. Having done some research I am now preparing to safeguard my data and doing a fresh factory reset. I installed over top of HC and didnt do a cache clear beforehand.

Anyone else struck this.
