Welcome to the HTC Sensation Owners' Thread. We believe our community is full of people who knows a lot, and like to help each other. We thought it would be a lot easier for this to happen if we could make it easier for some of our Geekzone users to have

Telecom New Zealand is bringing the HTC Sensation to New Zealand. We worked together to create a program where we could pair some of our local Android experts with these new handsets.

The way it works is simple: I've looked around and found three of our top contributors, on Geekzone overall and in the Android forum in particular. We put them in contact with Telecom New Zealand, providing access to brand new HTC Sensation handsets and account credits that would allow them to use the new flagship smartphone to its full capabilities.

These people will then be able to participate in the forums, post into a new blog we will be creating soon and provide expert advice to other users thinking of moving up in the smartphone ladder.

The three Geekzone users selected for this program are:

ArtooDetoo
LinuxLuver
lokhor

They will be receiving their new handsets in this upcoming week or next. If this works well we might have similar opportunities in the future for other exceptional people in the forums. You never know when I might tap you on the shoulder...

Disclosure: Telecom New Zealand is supplying the three selected users with new handsets, and a prepay SIM card with credit preloaded. Users decide by themselves how they want to split the credit between voice, SMS, mobile data usage. Users will interact in the community providing their views on the HTC Sensation. Users are not required to port their number to Telecom New Zealand during this program.

By all means, if you have an HTC Sensation (even if it's on another operator), post here. Let the discussion start now!

Looking forward to reviewing this handset and helping out all the geekzone members who also get the Sensation.

Looks like their shipping from 22nd June from Clove. Mine should arrive soon after that. Can't wait to upgrade from my Desire, the limited local storage is driving me nuts!

Awesome idea Mario, this is an excellent way to get hands on reviews without someone having to fork out for a new handset every 5 minutes.

Thanks heaps for the vote of confidence Mauricio, although I'm not certain that I fit into the "exceptional people" category. Nevertheless, I'm fair chuffed to have the opportunity to kick the tyres of HTC's newest and greatest, and I promise that I'll be delivering everything I learn about the device, warts and all.

This wouldn't be happening if it weren't for the generosity of Telecom, so I hasten to add my thanks to them. They're the launch carrier for the Sensation in NZ, and rumour has it that they'll be on sale here from TNZ in a matter of a few weeks. So those lusting after a locally sourced Sensation won't have long to wait. (If that sounded a but risqué, it was purely accidental, honest). :D

As you can tell by my sig, I have a Galaxy S. What you can't tell is that it's running extremely well on Gingerbread 2.3.4, its video and 3D performance being frankly outstanding. So the Sensation has some tough competition - especially as it'll probably be running 2.3.3 and at least initially, the bootloader will be locked. So no customisation will be possible immediately, although HTC have announced their intention to provide an unlocked firmware in the near future.

And the Sensation is up against a formidable competitor in the Galaxy S2, just released here in the last few days (although several of our Geekzone members have imported them previously and there's already a heap of expertise and knowledge in the community).

We've already asked Telecom though their liaison here on Geekzone, when they will be updating the firmware on the Sensation. We've been assured that updates and communication to customers are receiving priority status, so our Geekzone Telecom dude will hopefully delivering news about those things in time.

Meantime, since Mauricio hasn't introduced him to you, I won't be 'outing' him. Suffice to say that I suspect he'll introduce himself in the days ahead.

Looking forward to delivering my first take on the Sensation in the very near future. I suppose it should wait until I actually get it though.

Cheers,
R2D2

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

Hi everyone, I'm the Telecom dude R2D2 is referring too. I'm excited about this initiative as well.

It's going to be great to see the Sensation put through it's paces and what's cool is  that the information gathering be done by local people using the phone on a New Zealand network. So we'll all get to see what it will preform like here on XT.

Hopefully we bring some interesting coverage of the phone for you guys to enjoy.

At least I'll be able to make an informed decision.

I'm looking forward to being hands on with the Sensation-al new hotness.

Very happy to have been asked to participate in this. It came at a perfect time for me in many ways. My SG-S is 7  months old and my VFNZ two year contract is up in 4 weeks. Plus a phone that can do 850MHz 3G will make my trips to Canada nothing more than a SIM-swap to my existing Bell Canada data account.

Thinking hard.

Thank you very much, Mauricio and Telecom!

Also very curious to see how the XT network performs all day every day in the course of my own routine.

....and now.....a little Linuxluver waits.....

Thanx for the thread. Will be interested to see how it performs against the SGS2.
Glad I've applied for my $100 off this fone when it gets released just in case I buy it..

Aaagh, my brain had a meltdown as I was just posting on another forum re the Ideos.

Apologies Mauricio, guess I'm out of the running for any future similar ventures in the future  Laughing

For anyone else interested in registering online to get a $100 off the Sensation when it launches you can find the form here.

There's  no obligation to buy so even if you're only vaguely interested it's probably worth doing.
