is this phone going to be wcdma quadband? (not written on the spec sheet)

If it's in line with their usual 850 3g handsets eg Telstra, or AT&T..

Would love to know the pricing on a plan for this phone. It's between this and the S2, if I can't sell my Desire before the end of June (when Vodafones S2 deal expires) then if Telecoms deal is good, I might just be swayed...

Nothing I've seen yet suggests that the WCDMA will be quadband. Overseas handsets invariably show only 3 available bands for data so I wouldn't expect NZ to be different.

We'll be able to confirm that when we have the hardware in our hands, or maybe MojaMonkey can clarify.

If the ones on GSMArena are anything to go by it will be at worst twin band or at best tri band.. Telecoms one most likely will be 850/2100 or 850/1900/2100

Hi there - first time poster. I've just ordered one of these phones through an importer but I was told that it wouldn't work on Telecom / XT. Do they come in different models, with different specs so to be able to run on different carriers? I was going to sign it up to Vodafone, I don't know what the XT smart phone plans are like?

I'm new to Android and smartphones altogether so this will be quite a good discussion for me to learn how to use my phone to the best of it's ability. I expect it to arrive by the end of this week.. can't wait!

There are different models and it's very likely one you have ordered won't be sully supported on XT but should be fine on VF. I've been looking and can't personally find any import models that are fully XT compatible yet.

When purchasing a handset for use with Telecom XT you must get one that supports WCDMA 850 MHz. "HSDPA" or "3G" are equivalent. Note that "GSM 850 MHz" is not supported, as Telecom XT is a 100% network 3G (GSM is a 2G technology).

Check with the specs on the importer's website and if the UMTS/WCDMA frequencies include 850MHz, it will be fully XT compatible, otherwise it will be fully VF compatible.

AFAICT, Sensations intended for the Canadian market carriers (Rogers and Bell I believe), will use 850MHz for UMTS, as will those for AT&T in the States, but I doubt that Sensations for those markets have been released as yet. So my guess is that you've ordered a VF compatible one.

Edit: I see I've been beaten to it. Apologies for the redundant response.

Well yeah it looks like it won't support XT, but that's fine. It seems to me that the VFNZ plans are better suited to my financial and data needs more than XT anyway, so all good.

Just remember, if you are going to use mobile data on prepay, the Telecom plan is better value. Unless you have lots of friends and want to load some of the Vodafone features, it's worth looking at how prepay mobile data is actually charged. If you need to know the difference please create a topic in the Telecom forum and I will answer there (it would be off topic here).

Other than this, you are correct, anything discussed here is pretty much independent of operator.

Yup... most of the questions, info and tips will apply to the Sensation regardless of the carrier.

The launch $100 off pre-registration deal is on top of any subsidies you get for signing up on a 12 or 24 month contract. So definitely do it if you're even slightly keen on the Sensation as the pre-registration is the best deal you're going to get on this phone for a wee while. It's a Telecom exclusive launch.

Watch this thread for more information on the Sensation, I think it's going to be a tight race between this and the S2 and you should get some unbiased information here. I had a play on a VF network S2 this weekend and it really is a sweet phone, we live in exciting times!
