Coming from an SGS2 owner I think the Sensation is a great looking handset, much better looking than mine... It was a close call deciding between the two, but the screen and tri band wcdma radio were what made the difference in the end.
Good luck to anyone who gets once of these, I seriously doubt you'll regret it!

Does anyone know if the Sensation has that great feature that the Samsungs have called Contact groups??

Yes - it appears to have a Groups function - not sure if this works the same way as the Samsungs.

What Ive found handy is that it picks up the groups you have set up in Google Contacts (which is where I sync all my contacts to anyway).

It also has a "Frequent" group thats auto-populated based on your last few days worth of calls.

You can create your own that stay on the phone as well, but I like mine synced via Google.

Damager:
nakedmolerat: is this phone going to be wcdma quadband? (not written on the spec sheet)

If it's in line with their usual 850 3g handsets eg Telstra, or AT&T..

No

It's worth noting Canadian telcos (Rogers, Telus, Bell Canada and their wholesale re-sellers like FIDO) mostly use 850MHz, too. If you travel to Canada and want to do 3G data, an 850MHz-capable phone is the only way to go, really.

Android supports groups via your Gmail account. I have my contacts in GMail labelled into various groups and my phone lets me add / exclude groups. But you need to drive it from the GMail account....which is nice, because if you do that, it doesn't matter what Android phone you're using....the Cloud Knows. I also add pics to the contacts on GMail and they come through to my phone nicely for each person.

Is there any further word on the date of launch for the Sensation? I read that it was to be launched 22 June.

Well on the $100 off promo page it says to fill in your name before the 4th July, so I'd suggest it would be after that date.

If they are anything like Vodafone, no one will know anything, or say anything, and different stores will give different information. At least that's what Vodafone was like when the SGS2 was about to be released.

We don't know the dates, but it looks like the three reviewers will receive their later this week. Mind you those are pre-release units.

There was this link advising that the launch date was for 22 June.

Of course this is normally just when they announce when it will be released, prices etc. Hopefully there is some truth in that date and we may know more tomorrow.

Yes but they may launch tomorrow advising a release date for an upcoming Thursday. Here's hoping anyway.

Congratulations to Mauricio (Geekzone) and Telecom on this initiative.

So often it's not till after you have bought something that you really discover what it can or cannot do.

I find many of the reviews on the internet to be quite superficial, poorly researched and in some cases a cut and paste of other reviews.  Being able to read what fellow Geekzone members have to say about a device like this is a fantastic opportunity.  We will get real genuine feedback from users operating in our New Zealand enviroment and be able to ask questions on specific issues.

So far as smart phones go, I would suggest most owners (Geekzone members excluded of course) don't know what their phone is capable of. This initiative allows prospective owners to find out about a purchase, and for current owners to get some informed advice on how to make the most of the features on the device.

Well done!!!!!!!

That's just a media event announcing the phone. I was invited but couldn't make to Auckland this time. It's not the availability.

Hopefully mine will ship from Clove in the next couple of days, then I can talk directly to the SGSII Vs Sensation issue - you're not alone weighing up the two.
