old3eyes: Does anyone know if the Sensation has that great feature that the Samsungs have called Contact groups??

Android supports groups via your Gmail account. I have my contacts in GMail labelled into various groups and my phone lets me add / exclude groups. But you need to drive it from the GMail account....which is nice, because if you do that, it doesn't matter what Android phone you're using....the Cloud Knows. I also add pics to the contacts on GMail and they come through to my phone nicely for each person.

But can you use those contact groups for calling like you can on the Samsungs..  Open the group, select the member and press "call"??

Old3eyes

googamagooga: Yes but they may launch tomorrow advising a release date for an upcoming Thursday. Here's hoping anyway.

That's just a media event announcing the phone. I was invited but couldn't make to Auckland this time. It's not the availability.

How do you get a nice invite to these things??

Was a feature of Sense on my Desire. So I would be surprised if they deleted that feature

Kopkiwi: I just want to know some pricing. Very close to picking up the SG2.

I can only say that's it's early July for the Sensation launch, so not very far away at all.

Sorry I can't provide more information...

Here's the official information:

HTC Corporation, a global designer of smartphones, today unveiled the HTC Sensation and HTC Wildfire S, available exclusively on the Telecom New Zealand network.
The launch of the HTC Sensation and HTC Wildfire S introduces new generation smartphones with an impressive combination of display, design and functionality.

“The HTC Sensation and HTC Wildfire S are our first Android devices to be launched in partnership with Telecom New Zealand,” said Ben Hodgson, Country Manager, HTC Australia and New Zealand. “We’re excited to be bringing our latest Android devices to the growing New Zealand smartphone market. The HTC Sensation is a smartphone that is designed to deliver a sophisticated multimedia experience, integrating faster processing speed and new HTC Sense functionality into a slim unibody design and crystal clear 4.3 inch qHD display. The HTC Wildfire S is a compact smartphone that delivers high end features and an advanced smartphone experience at an affordable price.”

Telecom Chief Marketing Officer, Kieren Cooney, says Telecom is pleased to partner exclusively with HTC to offer the latest Android devices on XT.

“For HTC, the best thing about choosing XT, is that our network was specifically designed for smartphones. Customers can now use the fastest Android with a fast processor on our smartphone network.

“These HTC devices on XT are first to the market in Australasia, and demonstrate our commitment to deliver New Zealanders high quality devices, accessible prices, and plans that give customers more flexibility and confidence to use data on their smartphones,” said Mr Cooney.

The HTC Wildfire S will be available for a RRP of $599 from 1 July 2011, and the HTC Sensation for a RRP of $1099 from early July at telecom.co.nz/mobile or at Telecom Retail Stores nationwide. Customers who pre- register now for the two HTC devices at www.telecom.co.nz, will receive $100 off the RRP.

So $999 with that $100 off. That is a nice price. However I will wait till the users here have had there hands on with it and NZTechFreak does his comparision between the SGS2 + HTC Sensation.

Actually if you want some intel on the users thoughts, there is a very comprehensive wrap up on the phone through the Aussie Whirlpool Forum. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1722606 Most are importing the 900mhz version for use on the Optus & Vodafone networks. You will find out a great deal about the phone and it's capabilities there.

The New Zealand version will be an 850mhz version and will be compatible with Telstra's NextG network in Australia.

HTC Sense comes with a nice set of widgets as well - so you can have any Group appear in them. very handy.

I have an SG-S so I have Groups in the Contact app. I can see the members of the various groups are as I defined them in the gmail account I use with the phone.....so....yeah.

Not sure about another phone. I'll check my Vodafone 845 when I get home.

With any luck I'll be able to check it on an HTC Sensation tomorrow. :-)

Reminds me of a notorious young lady at my old high school... Surprised

But that's enough threadjacking for the moment.

I'll be keen to try that Group widget feature out over the next few days. And of course, anything else that Sense delivers that's the biz.

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

Note that it doesn't include ANY warranty and you need to purchase it at $89 a pop. A bit dodgy.

New Zealand company selling from NZ.
Do not need to pay for warranty. CGA gives you two years on cell phones
