As a new Sensation owner, I now need to stick my Air NZ Epass onto the phone (an RFID tag).

I note when looking inside the phone case, that the removable back has what look like multiple antennas inlaid inside, so adding an RFID tag on the outside is likely to affect performance if in the wrong place.

In fact I don't see much area that is clear of the antennas.

Anyone had any experience, or know technically what would be the best location?

Hmmm.. doesn't answer my question, but in answer to yours, because it is a whole lot more convenient than on a piece of plastic that needs to be removed from my wallet. The Air NZ RFIDs are notoriously low range, and do not work reliably through a wallet or other object, they seem need to be put almost hard against the reader.

The vast majority of users attach them to their phone, (probably because Air NZ recommend that).

My phone is always somewhere I can grab it quickly on the fly, other objects are more difficult to do so (especially when holding a bag).

So... Back to my question, does anyone out there have a comment on avoiding the significant array of antennas on the removable back of the Sensation, or know what the impact is in practice?

At risk of going well of topic.........

I always check in with Air NZ, using their infernal "self checkin" beasts.... I never rely on the "use your mPass at the gate" trick, as I have seen an associate bumped off an overbooked flight as there was no record of his presence until boarding, and others got on the plane first (if you check in at least they know you are at the airport).

The mPass app produces a QR that can be read at the gate only, not at checkin...

I actually have their app, it is useful as a scheduler, but using the QR at the gate is a step to risky for me.. what if the scan does not work (I have seen that happen to a person boarding, their scanners are rubbish performers), by the time you find this out the flight is now boarding, you have to jog back to the self checkin, or a counter queue to get a boarding pass, before boarding closes...

The RFID is the easiest way to self checkin, and gets certainty of boarding (other than when the plane is cancelled of course.... but that is another typical frustration of flying often)

It does not need a hole, is attached with double sided sticky tape...

The pinholes in the case are the PCB plated-through-hole connection points for the antenna connections I see, so I guess poking anything through them woud be a bad idea.

I see there is an antenna about 4mm down from the camera on the inside of the back panel, I was worried about covering a portion of this....

I am thinking just under the camera and speaker hole is probably the best location though.

Hi everyone,

I have just ordered an HTC Sensation from Telecom and look forward to receiving it this week some time. I have not read the whole forum yet (Started from the last page and working my way back) and I have found a whole lot of useful information. My Android experience started with an LG Optimus One from 2 degrees and I enjoyed the phone immensely until I tried an HTC Desire HD for the first time. The Desire was my mothers, which is funny because she finds it difficult to operate her Sky remote. I have installe da few apps on to her phone and she is amazed with each new thing she learns about the phone and I can see she will keep being amazed for some time yet. One app I enjoyed on my Optimus was the Google+ app/widget and the auto photo/video upload feature. Anyone who likes to use their phone to capture impulse/candid photos should try it out.
Anyway I will definitely keep reading this forum and the links and will share anything I discover with you all.
