I just glanced at my Note on my desk and thought "huh, I thought it was bigger".

The conversion is complete.

Now to flash the 800MB ICS firmware when I get home - the current LB1 firmware is now rooted.

Ha! Can totally relate to that, not that this would surprise anyone. I keep looking at my Note lately and thinking "That's not big at all, why did I ever think that was big?".

Let us know your thoughts about the ICS firmware (I'm still loving it).

Incidentally there does seem to be a bug in SMS for some people (FC's). I hadn't realised this because I freeze the stock one in TB and use Handcent (I freeze the stock one because of it's annoying habit of waking the screen whenever a text is received). Just FYI, so you know how to fix it if it crops up.

You'll also get a persistent firmware update message, however it will fail if you try and apply it. Again, freeze that in TB to get rid of the notification.

ICS is proving to be good, and stable. Something I've disabled has stopped the S-memo lite from working from the lock screen anymore, although I'm not sure I tried it post-ICS upgrade.

I've replaced the native SMS with Go-SMS, pretty similar functionality to Handcent overall.

All of the SNS and the Korean apps have been removed or frozen. Battery life seems to be very good.

Looking forward to final ICS so that folks can compile improved kernels from source.

If you are happy with the Samsung ICS leak, you'll be interested in imilka's ICS AOSP build on XDA. Its faster, slimmer, better, etc. :)

And none of the Samsung crap that we end up freezing in each ROM

Kinda need _some_ of the Samsung crap to make the stylus useful. I also need reliable bluetooth which never works 100% in AOSP builds.

Anyone found any wonderful apps to make use of the Stylus? OmniSketch is pretty cool.

Anyone had any joy with custom kernels on the Note? I tried Franco's v8 and the current SpeedMod, but both of them give my note the graphics corruption issue when waking it from sleep which seems to be fairly common.

I've generally stuck to stock with Root, although a lot of the time when I had Rocket ROM it came bundled with AngelOM and that seemed OK for me (although worth reading the thread at XDA, seems various versions have had problems).

I was using DarkyRom with franco kernel v6 as my daily driver. I heard v8 though had some problems. I found v6 gave me best performance with best battery life. That is untill the ICS roms started appearing. Now using Midnote ICS 2.0, which IMO is the best ICS rom for the GNote at the moment. Near perfect.

Plus, I've found banding of gradients is pretty much GONE on ICS! Don't know if anyone else found that annoying, but on GB (particularly noticeable on the XDA splashscreen and calculator app) you'd see terrible colour banding on gradients. Some people rekon it's a screen issue or hardware problem. But I guess it really is just a software thing.

Hope official ICS comes out soon for the GNote...

Interesting, I've not tried Midnote - I'm on Team Rocket ICS v1.5 and found it near perfect as it is. What advantages does Midnote have over others?

I was on RR 1.5 too. But I kept getting this psychedelic colourful flicker on the lockscreen. Happened twice over a couple of days. So thought I'd give Midnote a go and am quite pleased with it.

Only issue I've found is that when switching the mobile data toggle off and on, it sometimes can't find the vodafone network again. Requires a reboot to find it. Doesn't happen all the time, but can get a bit annoying as I turn it off whenever I'm on wifi.

No FC's for you on RocketRom?

Nope, no FC's. Running nicely, maybe once every three days I have to reboot it for freezing, but that was nearly daily on the Chinese re-pack.

Been keen to try out an AOSP rom, but the known bugs are a bit of a deal breaker. I'm sure official ICS can't be too far away!

I've recently put CheckROM v6 with the "ICS Domination" theme, and the new Franco test kernel. It basically gives you most of the useful features of CyanogenMod through a few tweaks (like an enhanced notification bar) and it looks pretty cool, is faster and rock solid.

I'm pretty pleased with it!

Overclocked it to 1.6Ghz briefly just to test and got just over 5100 in Quadrant (which I know is VERY subjective). Pretty snappy.

I'm starting to find that Go Launcher EX is a bit laggy though, anyone experimented with other launchers on the Note?

Did you install ICS Domination through Kitchen app? I flashed V6 the other day, but couldn't get ICS theme and JKay mod to install. Was too lazy to re-flash the rom and try again, so I went back to Midnote ICS.

How are you finding V6? CheckRom was one of my favourite custom GB roms. Great battery life!

I installed ICS Domination separately as I'd already downloaded it previously.

V6 seems to be pretty good. Combine it with AppWidgetPicker and it's given me all the usual tweaks that I like to use again.

Also - have you guys seen this:

The new S-Pen apps look pretty amazing!
