Hey guys. I just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 1900 from Trademe and am having a few frequency issues with it. I'm on Telecom's XT network and reception is absolutely fine when i'm in the city (i live in Wellington) however, whenever i leave the city reception completely drops off and i find myself being unable to send or receive any texts or make any calls at all. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Apart from this issue i am absolutely adoring this phone though as my previous cellphone was a Nokia 2112. Bit of an upgrade :D

Cheers guys!

Welcome to GZ!

Shame you didn't come here first. This question has been asked many times previously. XT is a 3G 850 mhz network only with 2100 MHz in the main centres.

There are 2 variants of the I9000. The XT suitable model is 3G 850/2100. The Vodafone suitable model is 900/2100 .

You've bought the vodafone compatible model. So fine for Welly but no signal until you're in another major center like Auckland or Christchurch etc.

Hope this clarifies your situation!

Cheers

Steve

Oops. Thanks for the reply! On closer inspection i may have the I9000T. The manual that i got with it has 'GT19000T' printed on it however, i had assumed i had the I9000 simply because when i went into the phone's 'about' settings it said it was a 'GT I9000.' I did flash the OS to Gingerbread 2.3.5 when i got it. Could this have affected the default bands/frequencies that it would be operating on?

Thanks for the speedy reply :)

If you have the 9000T, then you may have flashed the generic i9000 modem which is 900/2100 and/or some other non XT bands.

Look on XDA for 850 mhz enabled modems. Find one and flash and you should be good to go.

Check under the battery, if it says I9000T, then it is the 850mhz model and you can fix your reception issues by flashing a different modem.

Go to http://perka.zapto.org/

Click Samsung>I9000>Modems>Modem_850_Enabled

Download one of these, I have found UGJL2 to work well with Telecom XT

Extract the file, open Odin (connect your phone in download mode) and put the modem.bin file in the PHONE section. Make sure repartition is NOT checked, then flash.

Do not do this if your phone is the I9000 model, only do it if it is I9000T

I am guessing you have used Odin before as an official update through Kies will not flash an incompatible modem. If the update to 2.3.5 was done through Kies, then you will have the I9000 model.
