I connected my phone and the LG Software Update reckoned it was "New Zealand" and "LGP925G" and v10N......so it's updating it.

Fingers crossed it doesn't trash the Rogers pre-loaded system too badly and I can still make a call.

I'll find out shortly.

UPDATE: Hmm...It rebooted a few times then came up OK. It's Gingerbread! v2.3.5. The phone is working. I'm happy!

Ooohh! This is nice. The v2.3.5 update on the LG Optimus 3D is very smooth and feels much more responsive.....which is even more significant as this phone was pretty fast already.

...and it now uses the front-facing video camera in Skype. Yay!

UPDATE: Been using the updated phone all evening. It's a BIG improvement. Wow. Get this on your Optimus 3D ASAP if you haven't already.

Yeah. I kept thinking I had to wait for an update to the Rogers firmware....so set the country to Canada and the LG app would tell me the software wasn't available.

But this time the New Zealand country setup saw the phone as an LG P925G instead of a P920. So I reckoned if it was seeing the phone properly it would very likely work.

..and it did.  (This explains it....)

I also notice the camera app in 3D mode retains the light balance at the time of the photo (when outdoors in bright light) instead of 'darkening' it automatically as it did on 2.2...forcing me to re-adjust it. That is a most welcome fix.

The firmware now calls itself "V20C".

UPDATE: THe camera is now silent if you turn off systems sounds. In the previous firmware, the camera always made a loud noise, no matter what, when taking a photo....which made it a pain trying to take photos of people speaking or making a presentation....

But all sorted now.
