euanandrews: I don't know if I am sold on the GS3...

To date, I have tried;
Nokia N97 - best form factor, but underpowered, poor OS (Symbian)
Nokia N900 - best OS (Maemo)
Samsung Galaxy 1 - best specs at the time, but feels and looks cheap plastic
HTC EVO 3D - Quality solid build and look, but 3D camera just a gimmick/hurts eyes, and very buggy
iPhone 4S - beautiful looking phone but way overrated, buggy, limited and locked down, screen to small

The new GS3 specs look solid, but again it still looks cheap and plastic...if they could only put it into a solid and quality looking casing, it would be a winner.

Neither the original Galaxy S nor the Galaxy SII were made of materials that looked high quality, yet both of them had great build quality, durability and less problems than competing handsets. The One X has problems with the ceramic coating chipping and I've seen reports of yellow spots on the screen or something like that.

Hi There!

Yes I agree, the actual build quality of S1 and S2 are fine. I have even dropped mine on concrete from chest height and whilst it had some chips and scratches, it's still going strong. I've pre-ordered mine already with no concerns around BQ.

Where did you order from?  I'll be in the UK until the 30th but I think there's a high likelihood there will be delays so I was thinking of buying it in NZ since there's whispers it will also be available here for the 29th too.  I'm not convinced it will be available on the 29th, and I would love to be proven wrong.

One last question.  White or Blue?

Be good if we could find out pricing. Looks like Clove are charging 429 pounds excluding VAT.

Whoops I should have said, intend, they won't confirm pre-order at VF but my account manager knows I want one from the first batch. No question on colour, I wouldn't want to be accidentally mistaken for an iDiot :)

i'm glad it's coming out here this month ..well i hope so anyways.  telecom better not delay ..

i'd normaly import but i'm just undecided on what color i want ..the pebble blue back side looks really bad in some shots ... but in video not bad.   hoping this is just camera flash effects ..

but check these videos out .... phone is dead sexy, and the new S beam and allshare upgrades look really fantastic..

So to confirm we are all better off purchasing from the local carrier vs mobicity or clove?
What will be cheaper? :) (if its $100 difference then will wait)

Clove are doing the HTC One X at GBP399 and the SIII at GBP429. Here all three carriers have the HOX at $NZ999. Direct conversion would say $1060 but more likely $1099 or even $1199 from T, 2 or V (with possible $100 sweeteners for preorders). Just to confirm (from anyone who has done it recently) when you import there is the cost of the handset + shipping all of which is GST-able then a $35 customs border security charge on top of that?

I was about to buy a HOX but will be happy to wait and see the SIII in the flesh. Not a fan of Touchwiz tho' so may need to look for an appropriate launcher or ROM to make the most of the hardware. Be good to compare the HOX and SIII side by side.

Found out a few more interesting things about the SIII that haven't really been highlighted anywhere else...

Is there any reason why the phone is only available on contract when it's released?

$$$$$$

Same as the the iPhone. If a product is expected to be in high demand a company will leverage that to maximise their return. If you have to have this device and can't source it 'handset only' you will have to go on contract.

If it's only available on contract in NZ, then I'll order from clove or mobicity
