Hello there, friends - some of you may know me, some of you won't. I'm Nik, AndroidNZ contributor and long-time lurker, thought I'd finally get around to posting. Got my blue GSIII from Warehouse Stationery on Friday - Seemed like an age to wait for the blue over the white, but having seen the white in person, I really wasn't a fan. Well worth the wait, as it happens, as the blue is more of a slate grey with a metallic purple tinge, beautiful. Completely put to rest my concerns over the lack of a black option.

Curiously, has also caught the eye of the girlfriend, who was previously coveting a One X (In any colour but white) to replace her ageing Nexus One.

tyagi: I'm not sure whether I've accidentally removed/deleted an icon during my initial configuration of my Telecom S3, but I can't seem to find an App icon which just opens a Web browser!

On previous versions of Android, I've had a "Browser" icon and I"ve seen some S3 screenshots which have an "Internet" icon. However, I can't find anything on mine. I do have some Telecom-specific icons such as "Y!Tworld" which opens a browser and takes you to the Telecom/Yahoo homepage, but I don't want this. I just want to be able to pop open a browser on a blank page.

I've downloaded the Chrome beta app and this works just fine, but I'd like to use the default Samsung Android browser. Any idea where to find the App icon (it's not in the Apps/Widgets list as far as I can see).

The Y!Tworld icon is the browser, Telecom have shamefully changed the icon to their atrocious, tacky branding. They did the same to both the i9000T and the i9100T, it blew me away when I first saw it. Only NZ carrier to do so, too, as 2D & Voda have been nice enough to let their GSII & GSIIIs escape with very minor, reversible customisations. It makes me cringe to think that, at some point, software updates have been delayed because some poor sod has to change the browser icon to Yahoo!Tworld.

I really wish they'd stop doing that.

Does it have a counter like it was on Galaxy S2 when you added custom kernel?

yup, but it can be reset!

Can TriangleAway reset it now?

Yep, all in the AndroidNZ guide!

Yep, all in the AndroidNZ guide!

I will look into it when my 32GB blue arrived. But won't be soon I guess. Losing faith.

Thought you've already received yours?
I'm so going to hack the touchWiz launcher to support more icons in app drawer and dock :) when I get mine.
First in the list is to get rid of all junk nd bloated app.
Install BeatsAudio and developing language support :)

I had previously rooted my S1 so I could load custom roms because the stock firmware was so rubbish and there were better options out there.

Personally, having used the S3 for a week or so now i don't see any reason to root other than to use a number of apps that require root access - ad free, root explorer, titanium back up, etc. It certainly wouldn't be for the purpose of updating the firmware and for flashing customs roms. I am quite happy with the stock firmware for usability / speed at the moment.

Besides, the developers seem to be updating their roms on such a regular basis you feel like you are forever flashing updates nd never settle on anything permanent.

For me, I am happy to stay with S3 stock for the time being.

Haven't tried it, but by all accounts Beats audio is sh*te, so not sure why you would bother, other than the "name" and who is behind it.....doesn't necessarily mean it is the best.

Haven't seen anyone talk of how good it is, all reviews I have read are about how poor it is.

I just want it to counter the HTC users lol. They'd say "I have beats audio" and I would say "Lol I have that too so shut up".

But yes the hardware chip on the S3 will be better than equalizer preset on HTC. I want to test it with my Beats Studio headphones.
But man I want my 32GB S3 :(

LOL, fair enough !!

Hope you don't have to wait too long.

Maybe you should just have gone with the 16gb, plus the 32gb sd card.

The 16GB only has 11GB to use. Not enough for me. Else I would of went with it.
I hope it comes sometimes next week. It's like Samsung somewhat following the same with Apple route with the iPhone. 16GB first the wait for interest before making the bigger internal version on order. Samsung is badly prepared for this.

because the S3 doesn't partition it's 16GB like the S2 did i really don't see the point in the 32GB ... better price/$ getting a SD card instead

It is a personal choice. Price different is only $100 which pretty cheap consider internal eMMC cannot be upgraded.
And if it can then consider the labour to put it in and buying new chip the price would probably costing more than that. So it is a bargain. I already have a 64GB card anyway so I don't see why you saying you don't see the point :)

Rooting is still on official firmware then of cause you'll be getting official update.
Only if you install custom ROM on your rooted device than would make it no longer running the official firmware then it would not update.
