own3d: How do you know this deal for the 2D offer via Warehouse Stationary will work with XT?

samsung phones normally work with all the 3G bands i.e. 850/900/2100 and thats what is required here in NZ.

Ok, so here's hoping they are unlocked and function on XT (2D is VF so that's ok)

They're never locked - the Vodafone variants of the SGSI & II were pretty much vanilla installs, and Telecom's wasn't altered beyond a new splash screen and a renamed browser icon from memory.

And worse-case scenario, if they had funky firmware, you'd just blow it away with a European one, which would guarantee you faster updates anyways.

aimsy007: I congratulate Warehouse Stationery for not messing about with pricing. Surely this also indicates that the telcos must know what price they are getting the units for and what they are going to sell them for. If this is the case might I suggest they get some info out to those of us waiting.

sometimes it is easy to get details of MP's expenses but hard to get anything out of telcos

think i'll pre order tomorrow as well ... at that price i can't see telecom or voda doing any better, and i want to buy it outright because i'll be upgrading again next year so have no need to change my plan and get locked in.

i spoke to vodafone and telecom today ... telecom have the phone in their system ..no other info, voda guys are equally in the dark re size/price/release date ...

you'd think they all better pull finger now tho cause 2D will be getting a ton of orders tomorrow i bet

without naming the actual vodafone store the rep at the store said that he hasn't heard about this phone at all and he is not sure if vodafone is even releasing it. I pointed him to the vodafone website and he was surprised to see the phoe under coming soon. Cant expect much there.

thats very good pricing, would think that VF and Telecom would have to match that so looking good, certainly cheaper than I thought the release price would be

Yeah, I have to say most of the retail VF employees I've dealt with are pretty clueless and disinterested when it comes to new product.  Partially, I suspect, because they're told very little in advance.

Part of me thinks that $1049 will be the introductory price across all 3 networks. $949 being the pre order special for 2 Degrees til the 30th. I cant see any telco going cheaper then that as the S2 is still priced around that area. And XT has it for $1049 at Harvey. Just makes sense no?
And the $1049 is around the price of it's rivals?

Well, the Harvey/Telecom price isn't going to win any friends. I guess Telecom are just planning on very not many people hearing about the Warehouse Stationary offer and that most people are not pre orderers.

Probably should put the WS offer on FB just b/c they're making an effort, in fact I'll do that right now.

$1049 looks like it might be the retail price (in line with iphone who would have ever thought? :P) why would the telco's discount the bejesus out of the latest and greatest handset that so many people want, surely they would hold this card to lure people onto revenue generating contracts in which case the retail price becomes irrelevant and special handset subsidies will be the point of interest.

Maybe a initial $199 on contract entry point like the ip4s?
